Hello,

I just looked at the case of my new iMac late 2015 and noticed some scratches.

What do you think is this normal for a premium machine which costs € 1400 ?

Regards

It shouldn't be "normal" for any new item (and certainly not "normal" for Apple), but every so often a new item might have some cosmetic flaws. 100% perfection is a very hard standard to achieve, when humans are involved.

Either the scratches are serious enough to warrant returning the product, or they're not. That's up to you.

Any pictures you can share regarding the damage?

If it bothers you and is brand-new as you stated, then I would address this with Apple. If you paid a premium dollar for a high-end product, I would expect results. But they will make it right if this issue came from the factory like this. It's ultimately your decision.

From my own person point-of-view and from a person who used to build his own computer, the outside of a computer doesn't matter to me one bit. Heck, I once ran a computer that I was building on a test bench for about 6 months before I decided to put it in a case. Now if there was a big old scratch on the screen or the computer gave the blue screen of death (something that I have never seen with my iMac :D ). Now, back on topic to your scratch(es). Honestly, I think an Apple representative is probably going to scratch his or her head (no pun intended) with that scratch though maybe the photo isn't doing it justice?

So do you think it's worth to call apple and bring it back ?

I personally wouldn't bother with it. Since its on the back and no will notice it. The time to pack it up, go thru the return process, setup the computer again, etc. wouldn't be worth it for me. If it was on the front I wouldn't think about it for second in returning it.

However after saying all that you did buy a pricey machine and I could understand why you would want to return it and get a perfect machine. Hopefully they won't give you too much grief by trying to say you caused the scratch.

Truthfully, the picture of the scratch is really minimal. If there were multiple or deeper scratches, then I would definitely contact Apple. Otherwise, it seems fairly faint from the picture you posted.

I would return it, it's worth the hassle when you're paying top dollar. If birkin can send you a 10,000.00 bag and it have no flaws then apple can too.

mine is scratch free, and ive had it just a few days. It was even taken out and booted for about a hour on the same display table as the MacBooks in the middle of a crowded Apple Store because its the only store for 150 miles in every direction and mine has no scratches. Maybe it happened when you were removing it or if they did the setup in store for you then maybe it got scuffed during that time.

I personally wouldn't care about that little scratch although all my new Apple products had some minor imperfections on the aluminium it's something I barely see as I am busy using my devices. Unfortunately nothing is 100% perfect even for Apple. Hope you enjoy your new Mac aswell I'm sure it will get more scratches in the next years to come. :D

I can understand how this would bother you, especially at the price you paid, but I think being behind the computer and not that noticeable. I'd say enjoy your new baby :)
