Well, the MB's and MBP's were updated just a little bit ago, updates such as Penryn aren't usually part of a event such as WWDC. They just appear in the apple store online since it isn't really a MAJOR change to the computor.Sorry to burst you bubble but, they probably won't update the iMac anytime soon or they will update it and you will buy it and the at WWDC They will release a new one. The Mac Mini Might be updating tho.
Sorry, but the update isn't happening till at least WWDC
Penryn offers no real advantages now. The MBPs and MacBooks saw cooler operating temps, extended battery life and a very minor speed bump. The iMacs don't need the extended battery, operating temps are not an issue as of now and it would be pointless to upgrade to a very minor speed bump.
The real update with be Montevina. Faster speeds with the Penryn chip.
I don't know where all this talk about WWDC is coming from... The only thing they've ever released hardware wise at wwdc are pofessional systems like the powermac or macpro.... It makes sense, the audience there are super dorks that will get real jazzed up about a $5,000 system. If Steve jobs showed up with a new iMac.. He'd get booed off the stage for wasting peoples time
Apple doesnt care about its users and that is why you will see no update on the IMAC anytime soon.
I just don't understand why they let us wait so long for a damn upgrade. The IMAC is already over 250 days old ... they just keep stringing us along like a bunch of sheep.
I have never heard of a company that doesnt upgrade their hardware for close to a year. Why buy an IMAC now? It makes no sense.
Man I got excited when the store went down today... then disappointed andI really want to get a new iMac but don't want an older model if a new one is right around the corner and overdue according to the buyer's guide.
I know people say don't worry about it, get one now and you will be happy with it... but I know the feeling will suck once I pay $2,000 and a couple of weeks later there is a better unit for the same price.
Will the iMac crowd be content if the iMac gets updated only once per year?
Since the Intel models first showed up beginning in January 2006, iMac updates have occurred 10 months apart on average. So that basically puts it in the early June (WWDC) timeframe for the next one if that trend continues. The basic rules apply, if you need one right now then get it, and if you can wait, then by all means do so.
No its not. 8 months for the first update, 11 months for the second. its 9.5 months on average so 10 is OK.
That's including pre-Intel machines. Lancetx said "Since the Intel models first showed up beginning in January 2006, iMac updates have occurred 10 months apart on average." Which is entirely correct.I'm going by the 205 day average, which is around 7 months.
