Hey

I have just risked the glare factor and bought a 2.4ghz imac from the apple website.

I got it with 1gb of ram and would like to purchase as much ram as possible and fit it.

I have a few questions...

Firstly what is the max, 2x2gb?

Which is the absolute safest and best ram to use and where can I get it (uk)?

Will this void my free warrenty?

Many thanks.
Greg

Yes. 4GB max -- 2X2GB.

Try either OWC or Crucial, both are trusted.

I do not think adding 3rd party RAM will void your 1 year warranty. If you ever have to send it back, just put the stock RAM back in.

Yes 2x2 is the max which is plenty because there are hardly any programs which allow you to use more, I would definitely go with Crucial since you are in the UK because OWC or newegg is very hard to ship to the UK.

And no it won't void your warranty but as the other user said to be totally sure about it if you have a main problem, put the original RAM back to be sure they won't screw you on that, but normally you even don't have to do that because it is perfectly within the rules to upgrade you ram. Hope this helped!

I just bought some from computermemoryoutlet.com last week. They're running a special for 40% memory for Apple computers.

I had no problems with them - shipped and received on time, and in my iMac right now.

Not sure if they ship to the UK though. Worth a shot with the great prices they have.

Thanks for the replies everyone, very helpful indeed.

I think I may just get one 2gb stick to boost it up to 3gb total, think that should be enough for now at least.

Will prob just buy from crucial, £30 for 2gb stick doesn't seem too bad. Considering apple charge an extra £60 for an extra 1gb.

I havn't received my new imac yet, do they have the nice little slot at the bottom of the screen that I can simply slide the ram into or do I have to open the box up?

Yes they do have the nice little slots at the bottom, just take the little plate of and slide it into the slot.
