I Just received my new iMac 24" 2.8GHz that was shipped from Shanghai on Fri. 11/23. It was in a Tiger box with no pre-installed Leopard stickers on it, I thought I just received one of the last Tiger machines. I found no drop-in Leopard DVD, so I thought I had a chance. I started it up and pre-installed Leopard!

I guess you just never know what will really be inside the box. Except the clever packaging... that is a constant. ;)

I also just received my new 24" iMac today (upgraded to 2.8, upgraded to 500gb, and will be upgrading from 1 to 4gb RAM from OWC -- $125!). Didn't notice any screen issues (though I honestly think my eyes are lower resolution than the screen) and l was impressed with the shipping speed given other people's experiences. I custom ordered last Wednesday and it was at my door this morning (Monday). Soon to be followed by an unfortunate credit card statement.

So, you don't actually say directly, did yours also come with Leopard pre-installed?

Old news, perhaps, in this fast-paced environment...

24" iMac, ordered Nov. 11th from the Apple online store, delivered Nov. 19th, did not come pre-installed with Leopard. After reading people's posts here, I figured by then that I'd be safe. Not so. At least I had some time during the holiday weekend to go through the process of doing the installation... and everything seems fine.

24" iMac
2.4 processor
upped to 500GB HD

RE the screen: it seems mostly fine but has a very slight color shift towards yellow as you go from left to right. I only notice it when I have the background as sold gray. Not worth returning, but it does take down my opinion of Apple hardware by one notch.

New here - my first post - got my 24 iMac today! Ordered on 11/23, delivered 11/26, and it came with the Leopard drop in disc. So not all are pre-installed. Turns out, that might be a better deal - I know have a Tiger and Leopard backup disk.

Of note, also 'qualified' for the 10.5.1 update - must have the card issue that caused all the problems.

So far, everything works well. Great screen (HUGE when you actually sit in front of it!) - no dead pixels or dark corners.

Looking forward to joining the macrumors gruop.

That is super fast shipping. I ordered mine on Friday 11/23. Shipped Monday 11/26, scheduled to arrive 11/29.

Honestly, I hope it doesn't come installed. I rather have a physical copy.

I agree - couldn't believe how quickly it got out. I live near Seattle, and I think the FedEx plane came straight to Seattle from Anchorage, rather than the usual trip via Memphis. Leaves me scratching my head about those poor folks still waiting for theirs - not sure where the hangup is....

Just ordered my 24" iMac on Black Friday from apple.com. Upgraded to the 500 gig hd and a wireless mighty mouse. Been wanting to switch from a pc for almost a year now. FINALLY DID IT!

You won't look back, I switched just as Apple went to Intel and I've had a smile on my face every time I use my mac since. BTW I bought a 24" which had just been delivered to a Bath UK reseller and that had a drop in Leopard Upgrade as well, not to worry though you can remove the OS X Check to make it a full install and burn it back to a Dual layer DVD or Partition it onto a Removable HD

Today I have been notified that TNT have my 24" 2.0ghz in Nottingham for me to collect later tonight (Ill be out all day and cant risk their van drivers kicking the box of this replacement machine again).
It was also shipped from Shanghai on the above date.

So am hopeful that mine will also have the Leopard OS installed.
Tho mine is a CTO with wireless keyboard and mouse-a lower spec processor tho' ... dunno if this will affect my chances?.
Who knows

Well I will know later in the week when I switch it on!.

I can but hope, readers.....

How many times a day are you following the FedEx (or UPS) tracking website?!

One thing I almost overlooked - an external hard drive - for the TimeMachine backups. Had to get on Amazon to find the one I wanted (iomega ultramax 750gb). Should be here today.

Would be great to follow this string through to the first pre-installed Leopard that arrives.

Well I went to Nottingham TNT and collected my iMac 24" tonight. The guys couldnt resist going round it with their toffee hammers and managed to dent it a bit .. tho not as bad as last machine I sent back for same reason.

I noticed on the first machine the date on the brown box was 9th Oct 2007 .. this one said 23rd November 2007 ...

And when I opened it it actually smelled new unlike the last one!

AND .. no stickers on the box outer to say Leopard .. bah!

Wait a minute .. no drop in Disc.. hmm .. lets see those install discs .. 10.5!!! Yes! A preinstalled machine .. great .. so they are coming thro with Tiger boxes but new kit inside .. and I noticed the user manual references Time machine now so this has also been updated.

Great. Sadly I m away now for acoupla days but the unit will be switche don at weekend and scrupulously examined for the dreaded freezin', screen issues etc .. but at least we are getting there .. slowly!

Now-back to Apple for a goodwill gesture .. a month to get an iMac is not good .. and I dont want to be third time lucky with another!

Cheers!:D

Ordered mine on black friday (11/23), got it today with Leopard pre-installed.

One day before the scheduled delivery... not bad.

Just gotta get me a firewire cable to migrate my data and start crackin.
