New iMac with stuck pixel?

Yesterday I received my first brand new iMac 24". After a few hours I notice that it has one stuck pixel (in light blue colour, so I think it's not dead).

I read Apple policy about 7+ stuck/dead pixels

My question is what can I do? If I want to return it, I will have to wait 1-2 weeks and then again play lottery with panel and HW (also that option would cost me additional EUR - I received 10% discount as a student and this is the only store where I have discount (and only for one computer per year I have 10% discount) - If they won't want to switch it, I would get back 1300EUR, while new one is 1500EUR in other stores).

Second option is to try fix that myself. I read tutorial on the net and the author claims 90% success with stuck pixels (with "massaging" pixel). The only problem here is the glass, I know how to remove it, but probably there would be a lot of new dust after doing that between panel and glass - and the imac is only one day old . I try with softwer and "epileptic" videos unstuck that pixel but it didn't worke (I try this for one hour).

And the third option to simply forget that exists (is there a bigger chance to get another stuck pixel if I already have one???).

Honestly, it's only a day old and you paid a premium price for the iMac, so you should expect a premium product. I'd either take it back to the store from which you purchased it or contact Apple about the problem. At least this route you won't have to worry about messing anything else up by removing the glass and whatnot.

You have 14 days to return it (Apple's policy, may not apply resellers). I went through replacement mess two times with no success (still having 2 dead pixels). Honestly, they only annoy you for first few days, then you forget and ignore them. Just use background which makes them invisible. I don't even know were mine are nowadays because they look like a piece of dust.

I didn't know that pixel defects are so common. Funny is that all my cheap displays never had problems

Tomorrow I will call them and try to find out what to do.

All LCDs have this issue. Sucks but they do. I usually look at them when they get home just to make sure everything is fine. They can be perfect when you first get them and then develop a stuck pixel later on.

7+ is a little much, I would take it back. I have 1 dead pixel, but I can live with it.

I had so far 5 LCD-s, from the cheapes for my parents and brother and "elite" ranged AS-IPS LCD with zero dead/stuck pixel policy and no one had not even one dead/stuck pixel, and then Apple for premium price and here there is stuck pixel

Besides now I see that pixel every time I look on screen

Hehe, yeah try and return it if it bothers you that much. I was lucky to get one with no stuck pixels *knock on wood*.

I have the same problem with my iMac, a tiny little light blue stuck pixel.

Made me sad for a few days, but then realised that I don't even see it anymore. Most times I have to strain my eyes just to find the thing

I acted the same as you when I went through replacements but they only annoy you for first few days then you get used to them and later on, forget them.

Yes I read all thread and I see you changed iMac three times. Looks like Apple has just few perfect displays on the market

I must admit that OS X is perfect, but problems with LCD

Not to mention potencial problems with dust under LCD, not to much quality DVD burner, bad mice,...

I understand you perfectly, I acted the same. My advice is to keep your current iMac if the stuck pixel isn't in the center of the screen. Stuck ones usually starts to work again if you just give them time. Enjoy your Mac and forget the stuck pixel, you won't notice it after few days. I just tried to look for my 2 dead ones and couldn't find them, not even with with white background.

FWIW, I've had 5 iMacs, 3 bought used, 2 new. Also now using a MacBook Pro 15", and 3 Apple Cinema Displays in our small graphics shop. Never had a stuck or dead pixel on any of them.

Maybe I should buy some lottery tickets.....this job/working career thing sucks!
