I wasn't sure whether to post this in here or not, seeing as how it's a network problem, but it may well be the iMac, or the settings on it. Anyway!

So my parents got a brand new iMac, and it is the most beautiful computer, Mac or otherwise I have ever seen. But, upon turning it on and going through the account set-up process, we hit a snag. It wouldn't connect to our Netgear network, the one we have 4 computers (2 Macs and 2 PCs) already functioning quite happily off of. It's not password protected at all, it's as simple as joining it and taking it from there, but for some reason the iMac is allergic to this Network.

First off, I skipped the online registration stage, figuring I could sort out the problem when I got into the OS proper. Having done that, I joined the network, no problem, Safari ran, everything was fine - until I tried to send the registration information, which brings up that same welcome screen to finalise everything. For some reason it disconnected from the Network, saying there was a problem joining it (even though it was already on, and working!). So I close down the registration window, and suddenly I can get back on the network again. But it's not trusted. Every time I logged in it would say "None of your trusted networks were found, would you like to join xxxx?" (at which point I'm told there's supposed to be a check box that says 'remember this network' - no such check box), clicking yes is fine, it joined the network. Okay, great.

But THEN, I updated all the software over Software Update, and restarted. Now it does the same thing before, but immediately after joining the network, it disconnects. Whenever I try to join it, I get the "There was a problem joining the network" nonsense, even though I'm quite successfully posting this thread through that same network. Sigh.

This is ruining the fun experience of new iMac! I'd like to fix this before my parents find out it doesn't work perfectly and it ruins their day too... any thoughts guys? Is there some checkbox somewhere I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure there are folks that can actually add value here. Good question though, for I'm going to pull the trigger on a 24" in the next few months and will be doing the same thing... Glad this isn't about the glass screen!:)!

Will stay tuned as well as you....
