hey guys i'm thinking about upgrading my current core 2 duo 2.16ghz imac with a shiny new aluminum one (maybe today :D). mine has been having problems running it for a while, random system lock ups and all sorts of stuff.

thinking about springing for the higher end 21.5" model. can anyone with this model tell me what kind of performance i can expect? what graphic settings can you run? WoW is the most taxing program i'll run on the computer, and i do play quite a bit so its important to me to be able to run it well.

I don't know but if you did get one yesterday let me know how it turned out. I'm looking to pick up an iMac to use WoW on as well.

for now you'll have to disable the sunshaft effects and turn water effects to low to get playable fps. Before 4.0 patch I was getting 80+fps on mostly maxed settings, after patch i dropped to 5fps. Disabled sun and water and back up to 50-60+.

on both imacs in sig.

mrkjsn- i did indeed get my new imac yesterday! 21.5" 3.2ghz with the 512 video card. unfortunately i got home late last night and was busy moving everything from my old imac to my new one.

i wasn't able to mess around with WoW. i should be able to tonight at some point and tomorrow night we're starting real attempts at HM sindragosa so that will be a great benchmark. i will definitely check in and let you know how it is.

mmomega- thanks for the feedback, seems like those two things are killing everyone running a mac atm. hopefully they get the issue resolved soon. the new patch was the nail in the coffin for my old imac, it made the game nearly unplayable. plus, now i can run sc2!

i play native resolution, max everything no problems at all, around 75fps, I've got the 27" 2010 i5.

No problems here. :apple:

Well, I just got my new iMac on Friday and I've been playing WoW on it since yesterday (on W7 with Boot Camp though, cba to install all the patches for Mac so I'll just wait till Cata).

Anyway, performance of WoW (at least on W7) is flawless. With all graphics to the max, I still get over 50 fps, I put shadows to the lowest though because they are FPS hoggers and I don't like them much anyway, plus this way I keep a constant 60 FPS (which is what I've set as the cap). Cheers!

well on W7 it works great .. but on osx for some reaosn whenever i
play .. if im leveling and doing low level dungeons .. its stable and looks amazing .. but whenever i log onto one of my 80s and do the HH or a heroic .. it locks up as soon as i get into the dungeon .. and i have to force quit and then re start WOW .. i have no idea why and its happened on my previous mac pro

I believe this is a bug with the WoW client, not necessarily your settings or computer.

There's a well-known issue with interactive items causing the client to lockup. The pumpkin in the Headless Horseman encounter is the most popular culprit currently. Here's a thread started by blue. There's a slew of known issues. I for one can vouch for random lockups in instances (that don't involve interactive items), as can a handful of my guildies that run on Windows 7.
