at best buy? They don't even have photos of the items up yet but all four new iMacs are reduced, cheaper than Apple store. How can they do this?

It looks like they are discounting, at least on there website all the iMacs, new and older versions. It might be a mistake, so take advantage of it tonight if you want one.

I was in Best Buy tonight.
They even had ALL the Macbooks/Pros on sale as well.
Even so, still not as good a deal as Apple Education Pricing ... but close.

Best Buy still has all the new iMacs listed as on sale on their website, anywhere from $60 off (base 21.5 model), to $100 off (high end 27 model).
They are also offering free shipping.
As of right now they are not offering a store pick up, but it says "coming soon".

I can tell you that Best Buy has started receiving shipments of the new iMacs, but not complete stocks, so supply will be spotty across different stores. The "all iMacs and MBP" sales I can almost guarantee will NOT apply to the new machines, as the sale is below cost for BBY, which is functionally never done for new items.
