New imacs at "One More Thing..." event?

All imacs are now showing 5-7 bus. days waiting with ANY upgrade, including even the pre-installed software. New imacs are one of the few macs that haven't been mentioned as possible announcements at the event on Wednesday. Could this possibly mean an early introduction of the intel macs?

By the way, the powermacs are also showing long delays when any upgrades are added...

Just some food for thought.....

There have been no rumours of the sort involving iMacs.

If you read over the reports on the Macrumors home page or AppleInsider or Thinksecret, you will note iPods, Pro computers to be the main theme.

iMacs have only recently been updated. And I would be left rueing after buying one.

But you really never can be too sure.

The mid-cycle is based upon previous releases, however Apple has been known to not exactly follow those cycles. And also, the iPod recommendations need to be broken out by type of iPod - Regular/Color, mini/nano, shuffle.

We have seen early updates before on various products as well as late updates. The long lead time could be due to a parts availability issue.

I'm not sue if there would be dual cores all around, but I could see faster single core iMacs as long as the PowerMacs have a dual dual core at the high end. Although a 2.0GHz dual core iMac would be a nice machine.

Just checked out the US Apple website and can confirm that any change to the stock iMac results in a 5-7 day shipping label. Updates should be soon then.

Perhaps the iMac is moving away from a desktop machine to a portable machine...sort of powerbook/tabletish, thus the shipping times and a conjunction with active rumors.

There could be iMac updates(most likely just processor speed bumps) but I dont think there will be and there better not be becuase my parents just got a new iMac(17" 2.0Ghz G5 Superdrive) yesterday!!

They ordered it the day before I was aware that there was a "One Last Thing" Oct. 12 annoucement. I just hope there's no new iMacs..... the last computer my parents bought before this iMac was a 400Mhz G3 iMac in 1999. They deserve more than a one week period of having a new computer.

Their computer will still be new and still be powerful and last longer then their old computer. What is it with people not wanting computers to be updated? I agree. I just recently bought a new iMac but I would like to see them upgraded. The only thing that would make me a little upset is if they went dual core just because I would love to have a dual core iMac but mine will still do it's job as good as I had intended for it to do so I have nothign to complain about.

I think the shipping times on the imac do likely point to an update. However, it *could* also be that they are just in a bit short supply, since they have been selling great lately.

Well, I just started a thread about this, BUT Thinksecret is predicting updates to 4 (!) different Macs. If true that, of course, means we'll be seeing more than the pro line improved.

Maybe not so far off topic, but I was in a CUSA yesterday and overheard the salesperson hawking a new iMac to a switcher and she said, "... you could mount it on the wall and the whole thing is wireless..." etc. Could this be a new form factor? OR as seems to be the norm, some CUSA personnel know nothing about Apples, and will say whatever to earn their prized spiff? As for my attitude towards upgrades... let's just go ahead and bump the iMac's up again. My Rev A will be devalued to less than half of what I paid for it if that happens. And it lost $400 in value less than a month before the Rev B with all the goodies came out. At least I learned to wait past REV A from now on. All my wintel aqcuaintances are still laughing their ----'s off, and telling me how bad my iMac sucks, and how bad I suck for having an Apple. (Like I lose a lot of sleep worrying about what they think anyway!) I think, and hope that new iMac's are still a wait until spring of '06 kind of thing. If not, whatever. I still use my DV400 almost everyday, and it still runs rings around most any PeeCee I have ever seen. I use (in shame) a wintel box at work, not by my choice. Just my take on the "iMac bubble".

Huh? What's so unusual about that?

They are completely wireless if you want them to be, save the power cord. You just couldn't have any peripherals plugged in, of course.

The current gen is also VESA compliant, meaning it can certainly be hung on the wall.

The only thing wrong with what he said was the fact that he didn't properly qualify it.

And to go further, there's NO WAY a CompUSA employee would know the particulars of an upcoming update. NO WAY! Not even Apple Store employees have that information.

Chucknorris... I know CUSA isn't always in the (infinite) loop when it comes to new Apple products. Maybe this time, someone got a glimpse? Just further speculation on my part...
Of course, you COULD hang an iMac on the wall, but I just couldn't envision the iMac G5 without it's stand. Wouldn't that be like a fashion model with no feet? I like my iMac on the desk. Though it's not totally wrong to nail it to the wall, it would take some getting used to. Talk about thinking different! Maybe some of the mac updates are actually totally new macs instead of updates... (iPad = tablet-mac, or wristwatch iPod thingy?)

One more thing... Isn't this all a guessing game until it actually happens. But it sure is great fun.

Re a new iMac: From what I have seen of Apple's history, I'd think a new or updated iMac to be possible but not probable. A couple of reasons: One, they were updated relatively recently, and seem to currently represent the "sweet spot" in Apple's lineup--a great combination of power, flexibility, capacity, and price. Second, they seem to be selling quite well, judging both from comments on this forum and my own experience in the Apple store in Denver, where iMacs and iBooks were flying out the door.

That said, if the Powermacs go dual core, I could see Apple using the 2.3 and possibly 2.5 and 2.7 GHz chips in an iMac, although by all reports cooling chips any hotter than those in the iMac now would seem to require a substantial redesign effort.

The good news: We'll know on Wednesday!
