Who here thinks that with newer displays that are now brighter than the previous model that we'll soon see threads about image retention or screen yellowing, etc? I really do hope that even with the announcement of the new iMac Pro, and these refreshed models that we would at least see a newly redesigned iMac in December, but because of the new iMac Pro my thoughts and guess is that it won't happen anytime soon. Maybe now a redesign will be pushed back by another 2 more years?

What are your folks thoughts and opinions regarding yellow tint, or IR with these newer brighter displays? and what are your folks thoughts on a redesign on the iMac now that Apple announced the iMac Pro?

If you are interested in my opinion, I would say that redesign for iMac is not going to happen. They not only updated the processors and graphics, but also a display and I/O. The new iMac Pro will look similar to iMac 27'' 5K, only with 4 thunderbolt ports, no RAM direct access and of course with space grey colour. They will not update the design, when they announced iMac Pro with same design.

If they update the main iMac line with new design after iMac Pro premiere, I suspect that people who bought new iMac Pro would be upset. And Apple doesn't want to start the war.

Apple has realized there isn't much to do with the 2012 design that wouldn't result in some kind of compromise (such as less area for the internal sound system). That is, unless they were to make it thicker at the edges, but we all know how unlikely that is to happen.

That being said, if they find a way to shrink internal components (such as the logic board) without compromise, then a redesign is possible.

I just hope with the brighter displays the minimum brightness hasn't been raised. My 2012 already blinds me and I have to keep the brightness way down to edit photos so my prints come out okay.

The iMac 5K has always been the subject of image retention controversy and the previous non-Retina 27" iMac was the subject of considerable yellowing and grey banding controversy starting way back in 2009. I'm sure the new one will be no different.

(Though - and this is speculation at this point - the new iMac 5K probably has the identical panel (even if it has a different model number) to the one used in the LG UltraFine 5K display, because that was advertised as having 500 nits of brightness since it launched. There have been some reports of retention on those displays, however mine are fine, while my 2015 iMac has very bad retention. So maybe the new ones will be better.)
