New iMacs for 2008/2009

Hi

I am thinking of getting an iMac 24" 3.06 GHz with an nVidia 8800GS. I think I will get this at the end of September. I don't want to buy it if it at the end of the cycle, so does anyone know when the next iMac upgrade will be, and how major it is?

I'm also getting this iMac, but in mid-August, as this is hopefully when the free ipod touch offer comes to the UK, otherwise I will wait until it does come out.

From what I've heard, these are great machines, and for me would be an excellent first Mac. Unless I hear some official confirmation that there will be a update before October, then I will be getting the current one. They only came out in April, and by this time next year,updated or not they will still be out of date. Apparantley the current one ( 3.06GHz) take on the similar power speeds of the montevina type Intel chips which are suppost to be in the upcoming iMacs ?. Again from what I have heard, there won't be a dramtaic upgrade until January.

No matter when you buy it, it will work perfectly with snow leopard, aswell as future versions of OS X. This probably has'nt helped that much, but apart from speculation, I doubt you will find anything promising as to when and what the next updates are.

What does the Buyers Guide tell you about the iMac?

There are unlikely to be any major changes in my opinion. Maybe a speed bump/price change in September or January.

I think we're looking at April or May 2009 before there's any chance of a major alteration.

+1. That's consistent with the recent refresh cycle.

the only thing we've heard to the contrary is the cryptic earnings call comment about a "product transition", which is more likely to refer to the expected notebook refresh, not an iMac update.
