New info about launch day

I was talking to a buddy of mine today and his cousin works for cingular. we were talking about the launch day and he said that at 6 pm when the doors eventually open it isnt going to be a madhouse where everyone runs in and scrapes for an iPhone. (this you probably knew) but he said that working security will be at the doors and will only be letting in two people at a time to get the iPhone. Also he said that when they do sell out (assuming first or second day) they will be restocking the iPhone as early as that following monday.(i find that hard to beleive but thats what he told me).

this would make sense though. i've actually somewhat wondered about how they would handle it.

One thing that may keep it in or out of stock for a long time, is continuing buzz. If over the weekend there are glowing reviews, and user reports... Monday morning may be just as hectic. If on the other hand the iPhone is another PS3, well there will be plenty of stock.

His cousin huh... First or second? b/c if you say anything but first, I will not believe this report!

This just sounds weird. That would mean they would have to have a shipment coming in on Sunday. That would be different. Surely they would not withhold stock for Friday and Saturday???

I still can't believe that there is going to mobs of people willing to pay $500 for a phone plus a monthly contract. If a contract really is required, this will eliminate the ebayers. Even without a 2 year contract you are still going to have to pay monthly to use it.

I expect to be able to find one without having to camp out.

With any cell phone, you have to pay monthly to use it (unless you are one of the rare pay-as-you-go types). The iPhone is just like other phones in this respect. $500 may sound like a lot for a phone, but it's actually not much higher than high-end phones typically cost when they first appear. And the iPhone is substantially more than a phone.
