just heads up for those looking for upgrading to SSD in their iMac, MB, MBP.

retails suppose to have the stock (like, newegg, amazon and so on).

$2 per GB, eventually SSD prices are dropping :D

i am guessing SandForce based SSDs from other manufacturer also will start to slash the prices

enjoy for those waiting to get these babies in thanksgiving / black friday sales :cool:
 
I think the sweet spot for these things will be when you can get a 250 GB for under $200. Then we'll see Apple removing hard drives from their laptops entirely.

Hard to tell. In two years a stock install of Lion + iLife 2012 or Windows 8 might take up 100GB alone.
 
Most of what takes up an operating system's hard drive space is its images and excess stuff (like the list of default wallpapers, screensavers, games etc.)

I don't see apple really cramming their new operating systems with vastly more options like that, so I can't see their os bundles being at around 100gb of space.

Wow, I thought SL was supposed to reduce the OS size! Leopard and all my applications only occupy 14.91gb on my SSD. And that includes 4.8GB of wallpapers.

You really should trim the fat out of your system.

That is simply not true! I am running a new iMac 27" with Win7 Ultimate and all my Windows software including office, CS, AutoCad and more and my 256GB SSD has 170gb free!

Win7 is way smaller than previous versions of Windows and OSX is taking less space from what I can see.

I like and use 256GB SSD drive in both my laptop and desktop.

To me the sweet spot would still be 512GB SSD drives, soon to be showing up in 2011 and for around $500
 
My new iMac will be delivered tomorrow, but I am waiting a bit for the prices of the larger SSDs to drop before installing one.

You can go to NewEgg and get a Corsair 128gb SSD for $219, which has much faster read/write times then the OWC ones for much cheaper (and a little more storage compared to their 210gb model)

Sure, SL may have a smaller installed size, but it also employed the base-10 trick to show an even larger remaining disk size.

i'm thinking about getting one of these intel's. better reliability than other drives and should be quite fast. i had a 80gig for a while and it was nice:)
