I don't understand where Apple is going with the interactions with the app icons. I can't tell that there's even a differentiation between long press and force touch now. They both seem to do the same exact same thing now. Am I missing something? This seems like a peculiar design choice and a step backwards.

Moving apps around is a very common task and the fact that it's now hidden away after you either long press or force touch (instead of just long-pressing) just seems cumbersome. And again...the biggest confusion is that there's now no differentiation between force touch and long press.

I find force touch is still working as always and is fractionally faster to bring up the context menu when pressing an icon (than long press/ haptic touch) the only material loss I can see is the pop part of peek and pop now seems to be gone. You have to release and tap again to fully open. Maybe it's a little odd to have both ways available for phones with pressure sensitive screens, but it's likely so we can familiarise ourselves before we get a 2019 or later iPhone without 3D touch.

You can rearrange either by selecting it in the popup menu, or just keep holding until you enter 'wiggle mode'. Considering how infrequent a task rearranging apps is, I don't think this is a huge deal? Or are you rearranging your home screen several times a day?

It just didn't make sense why 3D touch basically served no purpose now. I didn't realize they completely bricked it. I guess it does open slightly faster. I didn't realize if you continued to hold that it would go into rearrange mode. Good to know.
