How is the screen on the new iPad 9.7 for reading books? I have a 2017 12.9 but thinking of getting smaller iPad too.
It’s no different than the 12.9, except just a smaller screen, for all intents and purposes.
Ok, the screen is different though right, coating and no truetone etc, do you have one or compared?
I've used the 10.5 for reading, and I will say my Kindle Paperwhite does a better job. The display of the Kindle is a lot easier on the eyes and allows me to read for longer periods w/o eye fatqiue. I will also say the smaller form factor the Kindle, also means the holdiability is better.

I'm exactly the opposite. I have hundreds of books in my Kindle library and spend a lot of time time reading exclusively on my 10.5 (Kindle is my most used app) - I cannot remember the last time I used my PaperWhite. I occasionally read with my 8" Galaxy Tab S2 but not very often.
But other than that it should be fine so long as you don’t expect to read outside in broad daylight.
If you are Not tied to the amazon ecosystem, consider the kobo aura one. It is also Waterproof - bigger screen and can read many more file formats than the oasis. Thanks for the reply's, might just get the new Kindle Oasis. Probably a stupid idea having 2 iPads anyway. Love my 12.9 so not ditching it.
Kindle is waterproof and can use in the sun too, didn't think of that.

This.I also find the Paperwhite stops me from checking Twitter, etc. while reading. I got a Paperwhite around Thanksgiving and have switched most of my in-home reading to that.
