iPad Pro New iPad Pro 10.5 iMessages gone

I had an iPad Pro 9.7 and bought the new iPad Pro 10.5. I only sync with my MacBook and not the iCloud. I did a sync between my older iPad Pro and my iTunes on my MacBook Pro. Got a new iPad Pro and synced with my iTunes. Music,Photos,Calendars,Contacts and Notes managed to come back except for my previous iMessages. Anyone know how to get them to sync or get them back on my new iPad Pro. I see all my messages on my MacBook but not my iPad Pro 10.5

Anyone here able to help?
 
Turn on iCloud syncing, then you won't have to worry about using iTunes. When I first setup my new iPad Pro 10.5" all my contacts, notes, messages, photos, Safari bookmarks, etc, automatically synced from my iMac. They also automatically sync to our iPhones using iCloud.

I see but iTunes should work just fine. iTunes on computers should be up to date. This should not require a rocket scientist to get iMessages to sync today between a MacBook and iPad or iPhone. Worked fine before iCloud came along.

Technically everything should work all the time but glitches happen, such is the nature of any software. Try restoring from backup again.

I backed up the old iPad to my MacBook and then synced my new iPad Pro to it. When restoring now it restores last sync from new iPad and not old sync from last ipad
 
You should still be able to restore from the old backup if you haven't taken a recent backup of the iPad.
 
You can always check in iTunes which backups you have available. If the one from your previous device is no longer there, then back the old device up again.
 
Maybe it’s just confusing terms, but did you just sync the new ipad or did you backup the old ipad and then restore the backup on the new one? Just syncing will not bring over your messages. They are stored on the device and will only come over with a backup/restore. The other things you mentioned (photos, calendars, contact, notes, etc) were likely stored in the cloud and would have come back without the backup/restore.

At this point if you really need the messages then the only option is to do a backup/restore, which will require wiping the new ipad first.

It is worth noting that starting with iOS 11 you will have the option to store messages in the cloud so this won’t be a problem in the future.

I bought a new iPad Pro. Backed up the old iPad pro and then deleted everything on old iPad Pro. After deleting I synced new iPad Pro with iTunes. Everything is in my iPad pro from sync except for iMessages.

But did you ever restore the backup you took? Just syncing isn’t enough.
 
To my understanding iMessages only convey over backups from iCloud. This is what happened to me and I called Apple, we enabled iCloud and it worked and brought everything over including iMessages. The iTunes backup will not include them.

You might think iTunes works fine - but it doesn't for restoring messages and sometimes other things. However, if you don't wish to turn on iCloud, that's your choice. Perhaps a third party app like "iMazing 2" or "iExplorer" can help but they're not free.

I did... I got the old iPad back and then synced it again with my MacBook via backup restore. Everything came back to old iPad including all iMessages. I then turned all the main stuff of and did a backup to iCloud. Signed out of my accounts on iCloud for both devices and then signed back in again but none of the iMessages came back to my new iPad Pro even though they use the same Apple ID.. Rather odd...

@stylinexpat do double check you're doing a full restore of the new iPad Pro, not just an iTunes sync, as the poster I've quoted above said:

I have done restores of both iCloud and iTunes backups countless times and I have always had my messages sync back on iPads and iPhones alike.
