I have a MacBook that I use primarily for storing all my files/pictures/docs etc on, and use it for occasional music sequencing on GarageBand. I used to use Logic pro x but really didn't need all that power.

I'd love to do the transition over to the iPad as my main 'computer' but have a question regarding the music side of things.

Will I be able to import a music file in GarageBand from the iPad itself using the new 'finder' app? And using an SM58 Mic via a USB interface is simple? These are the only things that are holding me back from making the switch.

Also I guess downloading files via an iPad from sites such as Mega Upload are still a no go?

The current version of GarageBand doesn't seem to support getting audio files from the Files app, but iOS 11 isn't out yet, and GarageBand is yet to be updated for it. I'm sure it'll be supported on release of iOS 11.

If you connection uses USB, you won't be able to plug it in without an adapter at least. And even with an adapter compatibility isn't guaranteed, so check up on it with the device.

Dunno about MegaUploads, but some sites you certainly can download audio files from

Compatibility is actually guaranteed now.

Here's the powered USB adapter https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MK0W2AM/A/lightning-to-usb-3-camera-adapter

That link states:
Add even greater capability and versatility to your iPad Pro by powering the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter with a USB Power Adapter. Then you can connect USB peripherals like hubs, Ethernet adapters, audio/MIDI interfaces, and card readers for CompactFlash, SD, microSD, and more.
[doublepost=1497883725][/doublepost]This means with that adapter you can keep your iPad powered while using any class-compliant audio/ MIDI interface. If it "just works" with your mac, it will work with iPad.
