I received a "new" iPad Pro 10.5 as a gift last week, and it definitely appeared to be factory sealed. Everything properly wrapped, etc.
It was purchased from an Amazon Marketplace seller (not my idea).
First issue came up when I tried to activate the Cellular Data. The AT&T option would not work (hangs after selecting which option you want) and the T-Mobile setup indicated that I already had an account, which is not the case. I made sure that WiFi was turned off before I started this process. I tried it multiple times, and I also tried calling T-Mobile directly (could not activate it), and through my account on the AT&T site (device could not be activated). To me this indicates that the SIM has been locked to a carrier, right?
Second "issue" is that when I went to check on Apple's Check Coverage page, it indicates that the device already has AppleCare+, has a valid purchase date, telephone tech support is active but registration is in progress. The price of the items as sold did not include AppleCare+, nor was it mentioned in the seller's description that it was included.
The seller has been somewhat unresponsive on Amazon, although they have zero negative feedback and quite a few positive feedback entries. When they finally did respond, they said that they had sold through their 100 units "in this batch," and that they were all factory sealed and never opened.
What am I dealing with here? If it hadn't been a gift, I would've already returned it unopened when I learned who it was purchased through, but I didn't want to appear ungrateful for such a generous gift.
Thanks!
