New iPad Pro Charging Cable

The new iPad Pro has a USB C connector with, of course, a charging cable with USB C connector on the end that plugs into the iPad. My question is what type of connector is at the other end? I'm talking about the end that plugs into the charging adapter. Is it USB C, 2, 3 or what? Is that adapter too high a watt to use for Iphone, Airpods etc?

USB C, as stated on apple.com. Connects to and 18W USB-C Power adapter. You can use the adapter for your phone, but you will need a lightning to USB C cord.

Just to be clear (for me) the cable is USB C at both ends and if I wanted to use charging adapter for anything else I would need USB C to Lightning. I would need USB C to lightning if I choose to charge something from the iPad correct?

You could get a USB-C to A adapter and then use your existing USB-A to lightning cable.

I think you’re correct. Really annoying that iPhones still are on lightning, means you Always have to carry both a USBC to USBC cable (to charge the iPad), a usb A to lightning (to charge the iPhone regularly) and a USB C to Lightning cable, to charge the iPhone via the iPad on the go. CRAZY!

I wish the industry would set standards for cables. Gets confusing and expensive to have all the cables and adapters you need especially if you travel. I have a full duplicate set of cables/adapters that I use at home to take with me when I travel.

I think USB-C will be the standard across the industry. Apple is taking their time converting, however. Hopefully all 2019 iPads and iPhones go to USB-C and lightning goes away. It’s so much easier when it all matches.

you could but it's only a $2 difference between the apple 1m usb-c to lighting cable and their usb-c to usb adapter.

(yes, their 2m cable is more expensive, but there are also less expensive third-party usb-c to lightning cables )

Depends on whether you want a bunch of cables or want to use what you have, especially if what you have are 2m cables.

On the "What's in the box?" page when you go to buy the new iPad Pro, it says USB-C charge cable and USB-C Power Adapter, so the cable is USB-C on both ends.
