Total annoying dilemma here. Looks like end of the month we get an iPad Pro refresh. But I was planning on getting an iPad Pro 11 inch in week. Would be very inconvenient to wait till November when the new ones are for sale.

Besides the new camera and spec bump which isn’t going to be huge would I be missing out on something?

What would you do?

I think you are wrong, I don’t think there is another one iPad Pro this year and if it is, it’s not an update for camera

There hasn’t been any really solid rumours pointing to a new iPad this month beyond people’s gut feeling. I have an earlier generation iPad Pro and it still works just fine. As such nobody can predict what the next iPad might have but each Pro model has gotten gotten faster.

Yes it’d be frustrating buying shortly before the release of a new one, if you need it now, buy one. I’ll be waiting until the new model is released. Hopefully it’ll have two USBC ports!

I would wait, if it’s mere inconvenience.

However, while there are very solid rumours of a new iPad Pro coming soon, “soon” doesn’t necessarily mean 1 month. It could mean anywhere from 1 to 5 months, according to the rumours from those with good track records.

I’ve just gone from the 2018 12.9” down to the 11”.

I did think about waiting to see what’s announced, but the deals on the current pro are good, and the rumoured changes are likely to be to the camera (which I never use) and possibly a processor bump (the current pro is already overpowered for most things)

I will skip the next Pro for sure if it comes out in November, if it doesn’t come out until March then I’ll reevaluate then (but will likely still skip it)

I would wait, but it might be for a bit longer than you or I would like.

There's talk about an October announcement, which means the units won't likely be available widely until at least December. But I would wait even past then. With the fragility of the recent model, I would hold off until the reviews are in and the early adopters had a chance to run them through their paces.

I, too, am anxious to buy a new model, but since I'm a bit of a super user and road warrior, I need the durability of the model I have (Gen 2). I'll wait through the shake-out, even if I need to buy sometime after the first of the year.

Bummer...

I am doubtful we will get a meaningful update this year. Last year's update was such a major step forward that anything in under 12 months is likely to be a minor spec bump. Given the current iPad Pro is so completely over-powered compared to the vast majority of people's needs, I would bet they will delay the update until they have something more substantial to offer.

If it is announced in October, there is likely to be wide availability in early November.

It’s no longer about the SoC, but the memory. The iPad Pro is overdue for a RAM upgrade throughout the line. It’s already been at 4 GB for the past four years.

If ya gotta wait ya gotta wait.

Hey, if a new iPad Pro came out next month I'd pick it up. If a new one comes out in a year I'm sold.

I would like a refreshed/new Pencil.

Tom

I would wait. If the latest rumors are true they’ve reinforced the strength along the weak points of the iPad Pro. Meaning it won’t bend as easily. I haven’t had any bending issues personally, but it is something to consider.

Honestly I still think the 3rd gen Pros are good for another year. How much more power can you add to them? Camera is still awesome. Plus, I don’t know anyone who uses the camera on their iPad on a daily basis. Once in awhile, yeah. Less than 10x in one year for me.

Hey, some great key points. Thanks guys. Will probably go ahead and buy one soon instead of wait.

regardless I think the current iPad Pro is goo for at least another 3 years. Maybe you can push it to 5... not doing games or heavy stuff.

If it were me, I’d at least wait until the October event to see what (if anything) is announced regarding the iPad Pro line. Then make an educated decision on which one to go with.

But if you are in desperate need for one now - you are correct - the current gen will still be great for a few years!
