Tried downloading some files from a site on safari using new iPad but not showing in I cloud or on iPad. Any ideas please ?

Anything downloaded from Safari on iPad will be found in your ‘downloads‘ folder in iCloud Drive. if not, check under Settings – Safari and see where you’ve specified files to be downloaded to.

Maybe the site I downloas=ded firm did not see the pdf files yet ?? will try again tomorrow

Thanks but nothing showing there also
It could be several things:

1) You opened the pdf to view in Safari but didn't save it. That's done through the Share menu.
2) You're not looking in the right iCloud folder.

If you can show us some screenshots, we can help better.

Definitely not as user friendly for office stuff and filin* as the MacBook is

Same problem here.
Have looked everywhere for a solution.
Set up location in safari where to download files to…

When I save .pdfs , nothing happens.

When I look in privacy and permissions, safari has not requested access to my files.

So..
If you click save on a file on the web, and that file opens. Go to the share arrow on the top right and scroll down to save to files.
This will download the file and allow safari to be seen in the file permissions tab in settings as well
