Hi, I bought an iPad Pro M4 11 inches on launch day, but after using it I found that it sometimes had touch issues, specifically it wouldn't recognize my touch input and I would have to try twice to scroll, close an app, or press something on the screen.
I finally decided to return it and ordered a new one from Apple. But this new one has the same issues. So I'm wondering what the problem might be? Apple did their test and said it's normal.
It's something very subtle that happens after using it for a long time, where I notice that sometimes I'm scrolling, trying to close a YouTube window, or closing an app, and the iPad doesn't respond to my touch command.
Have you guys noticed this behavior? Could it be software related?
Because I don't think two iPads with completely different serial numbers having the exact same problem is a hardware problem.

Thanks for your help!

I had this with an iPad Pro M4 I returned. Pretty much every time I used it, it would not read touch inputs once or twice. Mostly it would manifest as a scroll not being registered and me having to do it twice. But there were also instances where the touchscreen would just straight up be unresponsive for a second or two.
Never had any issues like this with my 2018 iPad Pro so it immediately felt off. My second iPad I returned as well because of a dead pixel, so I didn't have time to throughly test it. It would be nice to know if it's just a software issue.

Yes, that's exactly my problem!

I really want to believe it's a software issue because the first time I thought it was a hardware problem. That's why I returned it and bought a new iPad (new serial number, but both were manufactured in April). I can't believe the new one is also facing the same issue. I mean, what are the odds? This makes me think it's a software problem.

But I would really appreciate your advice and any insights from other people who are experiencing the same issue as well

Did you have an 11 or 13 inch?

I have not had any touch issues with my 13".

As it has happened to you on two devices . . . . . .

Maybe your fingers are extremely dry and that can cause an issue.

Yeah it most likely will be fixed in a software update. I've seen a similar instance of this in the past with a 2020 iPad Pro that was fixed by new firmware.

I'm going to try using creams for my hands, the weather it's certainly a little dry where I live.
But haven't notice this issue on my IP15PM.
I'm doubting it's a hardware issue as I've already returned one and bought a new one (what'd are the odds?)
Anyone else having the same issue??

Return it. I periodically have this issue with iphones. Maybe happens to me once ever 4 or 5 years.

I have a similar issue. 11” M4 pad pro, standard screen. I can really eye the issue when I try to select text. Double tap on a word to start the selection, hen drag the blue dot; after a few words, the selection locks for a few seconds.

Update: I can reproduce it by turning on bold text and assistive touch (both in accessibility). assistive touch doesn’t work when bold text is on (known issue), but the non-responsiveness of the screen was a new one. I turned off assistive touch (I was gonna use it with the pencil) and the screen is fully responsive again.

I had a 2020 IPP and the non-responsive touch, so often, is the reason I upgraded. I was using a tutorial course for Affinity Photo and the non-responsive touch was driving me crazy. This new M4 does it occasionally but not very often.

I'm getting this touch issue but it happens so very, very, little I'm wondering if it is my failure or the iPad's screen on the 13" iPad Pro. Anyone with the issue seeing it happen on a particular area of the screen. For me it would be the outer edge, which makes me wonder if my finger isn't making fair contact.

I now have a different 13 inch iPad Pro and the exact same touch issue still happens from time to time. Safe to say it's a general issue with the device or software and not a defect.

Edit: I know had it a bunch of times where scrolling with the arrow keys on the keyboard even had brief hangs. So it may not even be a touch issue necessarily.

I had the same problem with my iPad Pro M4 and whenever it happened i noticed that the AssistiveTouch had disappeared on the screen so when I turned it off the touch sensitivity became normal again, I guess it’s a problem with the Assistive Touch.

I'm having the same issue 11" m4 when I scroll on the left side it's not very responsive all the time... I hope this is a software issue, I'm on the beta so it's worrisome.

I’m experiencing a similar issue with my iPad Pro 12.9 M1, which is running iOS 18.1 Developer 2. I’m having trouble closing apps—I often have to swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen multiple times before the app finally closes.

I have had this issue with my 2017 12.9" iPad Pro pretty much since the beginning. Software updates did not fix it, but it seems to happen less than in years past.

I am having the same issue on my 11" m4 iPad Pro, I kept thinking it was me not being accurate but it's gotten annoying.
I already have a replacement unit and no idea how to fix it.
