iPad Pro New iPad Pro not showing up in Mac?

I turned on my iPad Pro and connected to my Mac mini and I heard the connection sound but it’s not showing up in the sidebar. I’m on the latest macOS version and my old iPad still appears. Just not my new one. How do I fix this?

Turns out you need to set up the iPad first and then update. Gosh darn it Tim Apple

You cannot update directly from the setup menu!
