Anyone experiencing where their iPad stops accepting touches for anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds and then, just starts working?

This has happened numerous times. I will press the home button out of an app, and tap a new app to start it and the screen not respond. No touches work. But it I wait several seconds, the tapping starts working again.

Yes, i have the same trouble with my iPad. I contacted Apple and they said noone reported this issue.
I upgraded with iOS 11.1 beta and the issue seems gone.

Yes, my 10.5 IPP does this all the time, even after a reset. Very irritating. Have not found a solution yet.

Serious question: Does anyone know how many reports are needed before they stop claiming 'no-one reported this issue'? Is it one, ten, one hundred or more?

That is Apple's standard reply on anything that they don't wanna accept.

I think it is hardware. If I hold portrait it doesn’t fail. Landscape it does it every so often while holding the edge but not able to consistently fail it. I can’t get Genius Bar to replace it unless it is consistent.

It did it while typing this...lasted 5 seconds.

Mine has this issue in all orientations once in a while. In addition to this, I have to double or triple swipe almost all the time to get the iPad to do anything. Needless to say, I am using my new Galaxy Tab S3 more than my iPad because of this frustrating issue.

11.1 b5 was tried and not resolved. That is what makes me think mine is hardware; perhaps a problem with the digitizer screen because the logic board is in the center (per teardown by iFixIt).

I think I see something like this, but I’m not sure. I sometimes think that. It is that. My fingers don’t register well. Maybe they are too dry. I don’t see this if I tap with the Pencil. If I’m lying down with the iPad resting on my stomach I sometimes get this. I suspect that the screen “sees”. My body so that a finger touch appears as a two finger touch. If I rotate the iPad so that the cover is on the bottom and I open the cover so that it is between the iPad and my body then finger touches seem more reliable.

I’ve also had this issue on the 10.5 since upgrading to iOS 11. In my case I notice it more using the keyboard in iMessage and Safari. But swiping at times it doesn’t respond and waiting a few seconds it’ll usually work. Restarting the device will make the issue go away temporarily and then anywhere from 5 min to an hour it’s back again. Very frustrating.

Using the current public beta, the issue is still there. No better. No worse.

I've had this issue on rare occasion as well, but I believe it to be a software issue as the issue only seems to present itself while I'm using Safari. It always goes away after a minute or two.

Replacement arrived today. No charge by Apple to replace it. 1 hour in and no issues. Unless I see this issue in the next couple of days, I will consider this thread closed as resolved by hardware replacement.
