This is annoying I compared the 10.5 and the side bezels are a lot thicker, I know they wanted the same size bezels cos of FaceID but it doesn't look as slick at the 10.5

Yeah and the screen is actually more narrow. I use my iPad in landscape 95% of the time so everything will appear smaller.

I wondered if it was slightly thicker because it kinda looked that way when I eyeballed it online. They probably couldn't get the other sides to be quite that thin so they wanted it to look even around the whole device. It probably also factored into keeping the battery capacity high enough at this insane level of performance by not shaving off more. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets redesigned with very thin bezels in two generations about three years from now, possibly when they move to a new display technology and have shrunken down the Face ID components. It might be as thin as the iPhone X/S/R. I have a theory that they will also square off the design of the sides of the iPhone X/S/R in the future, remove the 2.5D glass on the outside and make it flush like the iPad, and then remove the notch and stuff the Face ID into that very slim bezel. Gonna be a hell of a challenge but it's gonna look great on both devices sometime in the early 2020s.

I know its annoying, I don't like width being smaller it kinda looks odd

You could see this from every video and picture that has been released. Why is this a surprise?
I didn't know I thought the 11" would be same width just taller

I’d return it and stick to the 10.5
every YouTuber is acting like the new gestures are exclusive to the new iPads the 10.5 still has same ones and without annoying always on homebar
[doublepost=1541630582][/doublepost]also why is the camera not same as xs, its not that its so thing the xs max etc is thinner that the iPad

It is actually shorter and wider.

11-inch iPad Pro
247.6 x 178.5 x 5.9 mm (9.74 x 7.02 x 0.23 inches)

10.5 inch
250.6 x 174.1 x 6.1 mm (9.8 x 6.8 x 0.24 inches)

we are talking about screen not overall size

I just compared my new 12.9” to my old 12.9” and the side bezels are NOT thicker on the new device. If anything they’re slightly thinner.

the 12.9 may be the way to go if you need a new iPad this year as the size of it is more manageable than the 12.9s of yesteryears. I agree it is def a edge of bezel to edge of bezel display. My guess (as i do not know this for a fact) is that they saved some $$$ going with the displays they used and given that its a lcd display they couldn't truly make it edge to edge without this big of bezels. Most of the time I am critical of a new apple device that makes radical changes however I sometimes (most of the time) give in and purchase them anyway. craziness.

aw man damn you OP i was so looking forward for this thing but now i feel less so...is it that much more awkward in terms of the thicker bezels and it being shorter than 10.5? so it doesn't feel as slick? does it feel less good in the hands than 10.5?

I keep hearing them say “bezeless” display on reviews. I see bezels

I messed around with the 11 inch Pro and I think I’ll go with the 12.9. The 11 feels like an android tablet (bezel wise). Just my opinion.
