Apple's new Safari guided tour video for the iPad shows video playback inside a webpage - in the 1:28 mark the guy says "You can even watch video without leaving the page you're on, play it full screen with a tap." Looks like a flash video to me (might be html5?).. No a Youtube player. What do you guys say about this?

Hmm so Apple is kinda misleading people into thinking they can play any video on the web no? So basically that was a QuickTime video player the is masked with a custom skin.
One big problem with html5 video is you cannot change the quality, at least from what i tested. Hulu and Youtube both have different video playback qualities to choose from.

^Since Apple is targeting the mainstream crowd, there's probably a good percentage of them who don't understand that some of those videos are Flash, while others are Quicktime or something else. Tell that percentage of people that they can watch videos in a webpage, and yes, they will be led to think that they can watch any video. It's not necessarily deception, because if a video is non-Flash, they absolutely will be able to watch it. But it IS convenient omission. Not everyone who wants an iPad is going to be tech-savvy enough to research which formats are accepted and which are not. There are bound to be some people taken by surprise, as Apple cannot really be expected to sing out loud and clear that they've rejected Flash. The consumer has to know which questions to ask, and not all of them will.

I agree with you.

It still won't be the big deal some people are trying to make it. When the average consumer encounters unplayable Flash video, most will just move on rather than complain or return their iPad.

I expect to see a lot of noise initially from Flash proponents trying to fan some flames, so it will be difficult to gauge how many regular users are complaining. No matter the uproar, I can't see Apple changing their stance on Flash on the iPad or iPhone.

Agree with you completely. To be frank, the lack of support for Flash has not hurt the adoption of the iPhone. I think people know what they're in for with iPad.

I just heard in the Pages video:

"you can browse your documents you've saved or downloaded from the web"

Way cool... If I can visit a website that has .doc's on it, and be able to download them and open them up right from the iPad, that l' be GREAT.
