If you’ve waited this long, you may as well wait a few more months to get the 9th gen. Before you ask, we don’t know its exact specs, but it’ll be an improvement over the 8th gen.

In short, yes, just about everything is better about the newest iPad, except maybe the screen quality, sound quality and front camera quality. That might be different with the 9th gen, so I’d wait.

The 8th is a very big improvement over the original air but as others have said wait a few more months to see if the 9th gen comes out.

You will gain a better screen, faster storage access times, a much faster processor, access to more OS updates going forward, compatibility with more apps and peripherals.

The case for you upgrading is quite clear. In regards to waiting for a 9th Gen, unless you’re absolutely certain one is coming out in September then you’re better getting the 8th Gen. It might be mid-2022 before we see the 9th Gen for all we know.

The 8th Gen IPad would be a decent upgrade for you, but if you can snag a really good bargain on an Ipad Air 3 for not much more, or possibly even an Air 4 go for those.
