This on an iPhone 14 Pro that I just received this week and which replaced a stellar but storage deficient iPhone XR.

iOS 16.3 was installed on this new phone as part of the migration process from the old XR.

Since then the battery needs to be charged twice a day, even though I'm a very light user. I never make phone calls. I've only taken a handful of photos. I mainly use the phone for email, Messages and reading News+. I don't watch videos. I play music for, perhaps, an hour or so per day. I do use it as a Personal Hotspot when I'm out with my WiFi only iPad. But that's an hour a day, max.

"Charging was on hold due to iPhone temperature"? At that time it was sitting on a desk not being used at all. Why would a brand new phone get too hot to charge when it's not being used at all?

61% of battery usage due to "No Cell Coverage"? I've never seen that phone not have cell coverage. I live in a urban area with plenty of cell phone coverage.

System Services used 27GB of Cellular Data? Uninstalled apps 23GB?

Photos using 19GB? I've taken exactly 11 photos with the phone.

Dropbox 12GB? I only use Dropbox to upload photos to my iMac. How could 11 photos use 12GB of bandwidth?

What's going on here?

I realize no one is really interested in this (zero replies), but I think I figured out what was going on.

Warning: It's a long story. I'm sure no one will read it unless they arrived here as a result of an online search. The following is for them:

On my XR I had set up an eSIM. I was planning to travel and thought it would be a good idea to reserve the physical SIM slot for SIMs I got on the way.

Once I had the eSIM set up I tested the phone with the old physical SIM still in the slot. Everything worked fine.

When I got the 14 Pro I wanted to transfer the eSIM from XR. The setup process provides a mechanism for this, but it didn't work for me. It kept advising me to contact the carrier. I did this. They couldn't figure it out and said to bring both phones in to their service center.

My wife did that. They tried the Apple method of transferring the eSIM which didn't work for them, either. So, they used their system to transfer the eSIM.

Unfortunately, the person who did this put the old physical SIM into the 14 pro. And, she enabled both the real SIM and the eSIM. I believe this is what caused the havoc. This is because the old real SIM was associated with no telephone number. The result was that my new 14 Pro couldn't use cellular at all. No phone calls. No data. (I don't know why they didn't test this at their service center.)

Eventually I figured out that I ought to disable the real SIM. Once I did that I was able to use cellular voice and data and the personal hotspot. But, the phone was still suffering massive battery drain from: "No Cell Coverage". At that point I removed the physical SIM.

Now, all is well.

Battery life is excellent. The phone no longer gets hot. Personal Hotspot works fine.

Thanks for posting a solution - at least someone else reading this might have the same situation and benefit from it.

I have dual e-sims on my 13PM. One has a lot better reception than the other. When I make the less reception one the active sim, it burns the battery even if I'm on WiFi.

Glad removing the sim worked for you. Thank you again for posting what worked.
