New iPhone Ads 2-22-10

Just saw them both for the first time tonight. Since i'm not a proud parent I couldn't really relate to the whole first steps one. Infact knowing my family I would have called and gotten a "what do you want" followed by "how do I open this thing you sent me". I have done work while on hold, though.
 
Is it just me or is the apple logo darker now at the end?

Seems like apple is shifting towards the darker apple logo (like the one on the iPad) rather than the current light grey one.
 
It must be hard to resell a phone over and over with out being repetitive and just talking about apps from the app store.

"First Steps" was something any generic video capable phone could do. Not really that impressed, personally. Maybe the quality and ease of use is what they were selling, but that was a bit of a reach. 2/5

"Hold On" was good. It emphasized the ability to do voice and data, as well as feature a few apps and capabilities of the iPhone. 4/5


And no, I don't have any better ideas.
 
omg, please dont be one of those parents that notifies everyone about ur kids first steps... waste of multimedia download allowance (or whatever you call it).
 
Found it odd that the On Hold clip was completely using WiFi for their connection. Seems they would be pushing that 3G could do that.

The entire point of an ad is to get you to buy a new product.

That's why they make them.

You expect them to run an ad with the slogan "Yeah, you should probably just stick with the phone you've already got" ?
 
But on the First Steps ad, am I not correct that on O2 in the UK, sending the vid over 3G would not enable you to make a voice call at the same time?

I like them both but can relate to number 1 a bit more. I have a 16 month old and my wife and I got our Iphones 3gs when it first came out. Since we've gotten them, I've been using the video feature of it to capture a lot fo great moments. Sure I could use our nice video camera to capture them, but then I have to download them, edit them, and then upload them. Even with IPhoto making it super easy - I still like doing it via the IPhone.

When it came time for my daughter to walk I had the Iphone ready and recorded her walking from y wife to me. I was able to upload it on facebook within minutes and have my family see it in less then ten minutes. This is what I really like about it. I don't get annoying calls from my parents anymore wanting me to upload new pictures, because anything cute my kids do - it's on facebook for my parents to see.

A word of caution though. Since facebook is a social networking site, make sure all your video are restricted to only those you want to show them too. I restrict mines to only friends, since that is my intended audience.

You can send and call at the same time.
 
Yea, don't mind being on hold IF they don't charge you by the minute for being on hold!

I am still waiting for true iPhone VoIP integration, and PTT (Push To Talk)...

The only thing I would say about this is that the commercial did show merging two calls together. I think that is a nice, easy to use feature. I have asked people I know who have other phones to do it and they could not figure it out and I end up getting everyone on the call using my iPhone.

How does a person hold and use a phone in that exact position for 30 seconds without moving even a tiny bit? It's creepy! Like cyborg hands or something!

There is a prop holding the iphone, the actor is just pretending to hold the iphone.
 
I was recording and sending (posting, editing, etc) video clips long before the iPhone was ever introduced. There was no way I'd buy an iPhone until they brought these features into their phone lineup.

In fact, Apple is just promoting a new feature (to them) that many people were requesting from the very beginning. Video recording, MMS? Hi Apple, welcome to 2005.
