For the longest time I wanted a flush back on my iPhone but what do you think? Triple dots extruding from the back or flush?

I'd personally prefer it to be flush even if it meant the phone itself was a touch thicker in depth. You could also get more hardware/larger battery in the extra space too so would be a win/win especially if the rumoured titanium build is going to happen...

Who wouldn't?
I wouldn't want to add any dimension or weight to the phone over it though.
I'm still trying to find something like these that I could stick on the back of the phone or case to make it lie flat........

Either the phone becomes thicker or the camera performance has to decrease. I wouldn’t mind if the camera ended up matching the SE3’s.

Apple would never regress with their cameras though.

Ive seen a case with bumps on the back to allow the phone to sit flat on a surface.
But I didn't like the case well enough otherwise to buy it at the time.
Should anyone recognize that kind of case, I'd appreciate knowing the brand, as I might like to revisit that option.

SE3 camera is average at best?! It's also one of the main selling points of a new iPhone so there's zero chance they'd go backwards. Thicker phone would be welcome if it came with genuine improvements.

The SE3’s shooter is apparently quite good in normal lighting. It would be good enough for me.

There are benefits with a thicker phone though such as a better camera and more battery life.

Nor their love of thin!

I would want it on paper, but I can’t imagine the iPhone 14 Pro being flush given the thickness of the camera bump, it would be massive. And even if I’m not a photographer by any mean, I‘ve noticed the improvements to the picture quality in iPhones in the past years and would not trade off that quality solely to have a flush back iPhone. So I guess that the camera bump is a decent compromise for the foreseeable future

Apple's biggest selling point and the area they spend the most time year after year is camera. No way they go backwards.

Yeah, it is. I had a 13 Pro and an SE3 for a while, and took pictures outdoors in good lighting with both to compare. I honestly couldn't really tell any difference between the two, even when zooming to 100% on a computer screen.
The A15 processor that does the image processing anyway in both phones is no different, minus the addition of night mode on the SE.

Low lighting is really where the SE starts to fall off- but in good or even moderate light, there is not really any discernable difference.

No on the basis it would almost certainly mean reducing the camera quality markedly, or a really chunky phone. If they could do it without either of those things, sure, but I don't see that with existing technology.

No, because the phone would have to be 12mm or nearly 50% thicker.

Preferably, a flat back. If the camera lenses are too thick, then I'd rather have one big island housing all the lenses flat, not islands on top of island like Apple did. That is seemingly dumb. I prefer Samsung's design. 1 big island for all cameras flat, or individual islands for each lenses, but just one level of protrusion, not islands on top of island.

All the old cellphones had flush backs. Do you really want to go back to that? I have a Linux phone that has a flush back with the camera, it’s also a removable back, and you can replace the battery and sim card after you take the back cover off.

Yup - you want that baby - ya!!!!!

I fail to see how that correlates with your conclusion.

Yeah, exactly. I mean the iPhone 4, the 4s, the 5 and 5s are totally what you're talking about! I mean why go back to that, right?

Wait…oh, right - THEY AREN'T!

Wait…oh, right - you may be onto something? Ditch all the cameras and 4K and have one 5mp snapper on the back. That’s all you really need and the iPhone 15 still has USB-C and of course - that’s all that really matters.

5mp single camera on back for flat back - but USB-C - ya baby ya!!!!!

Yeah, that's pretty much perfect.

99% of my pictures (as I've said several times here before) are shots of things on grocery shelves, so my wife can decide what she wants me to bring home. I don't need the camera in the 14 Pro for that, I don't need the camera in my current 11PM, I don't need the camera in my 6s+. I don't even need the camera in my 4, 4s or 5 for that.

While a camera on a phone is convenient, I've never bought into the camera being all important mentality. If I need a camera, I buy an actual camera. I need/want a phone, so I buy a phone. One that's primary feature set is making phone calls. Apple adds cameras to their phones, so I end up with a camera anyway. Oh well. But I'm a big believer in using the appropriate device for the job, not this jack of all trades stuff that people want to make their phones do.
