Not everyone is watching the event and a few days of talk & hype means most of us keen to get the latest & greatest are ready for Friday.
A few days also allows people to get their finances in order as making a snap purchasing decision could lead to many orders being returned & cancelled for those of us who buy SIM free and then get buyers remorse.
I'd be happy to place my order right after the presentation but a few days to decide on colour/model/capacity is a good thing. Yeah, first world problems & all that.

Other products like the iPad/iPad Pro and MacBook Air last year were available to order right after their unveiling events. Since iPhone hype is kinda dead these days perhaps they should do the same as with other products. Here’s hoping that we can order the new products tomorrow even if unlikely.
The Apple hype for iPhone is not dead...it’s still the biggest event of the year in tech
I like the 72h window between the event and the preorder launch, actually. It ensures that we'll have enough time to make a decision concerning storage capacity, color, size and accessories!

Pixel ordering is a complete nightmare.
I hate the 12AM Pacific time launch but it's better than randomly showing up during the keynote like Pixels do.

How are you gonna pre order when you haven't even seen the iPhone 11 yet, or what the changers are.
Well the Watch will be available to order today. Hopefully the iPhones as well? Fingers crossed!
I hope pre order for the iPhone will be Friday. Yes I saw the pre order for the watch is today after the Apple store opens up. I’d be pissed because I’m current working, lunch break now but of the pre order started out after the event I’d miss out on it..
I'm definitely happy because I work at 8 am and wake up at 6 AM. Works out really well for me, as I'll just pre-order at 7AM Central
