new Iphone refuses to accept my user& pass

I bought an iphone 5C....Walmart on line...former Verizon phone bought total wireless.
my username with icloud is my email with .me I have had for over 25 years.
The password is one I have made and recorded on my mac. It is not complicated
it is the name of a country and the year I visited....the iphone REFUSES to accept
this information...HELP

Have you tried your password: 'country1234@iCloud.com' instead of 'country1234@me.com' ?

called apple to be told I must sign in with @mac.com NOT me.com NOT icloud.com
