I know Apple is touting this as the strongest glass on any iphone, which they do every year, then the drop tests start on launch day and they fail miserably lol. Since Apple did not say who is making the glass, has anyone heard if its the new Gorilla Glass 8 I think is the one that the Gorilla Glass makers tout as able to drop from several feet without breaking.

It's glass. Drop it on something hard and it'll likely break; perhaps not at first but it will eventually. That's generally what glass does. Anyone that's surprised or annoyed by that should get some perspective. :)

Only saphire is strong enough to prevent the most scratches.

Exactly...notice the camera lens cover is the only part that never has a scratch on it unless you destroy it on purpose...I believe that is the only part on the iPhones that are a sapphire material.

My first thought on this "most durable screen" is that it perhaps focuses more on scratch type resistance over impact type situations. Which I am all for, i would love to not need a clear screen protector over my iPhone display.

In the Tim Cook interview on GMA he said the glass was from Kentucky which is where the Corning factory is that makes the gorilla glass. I'm assuming it's still that.
