Hi, before condemning this thread to being another crappy ipod video out thread (i couldn't find a similar question elsewhere) please read this..

I have a new classic 160gb and I use it with my older universal dock, the one with s-video out. I connect the dock to the TV using a white AV cable (ie, 3.5mm to 3 rca) to watch video and it works great. Note: I do not use the new cable that connects to the the dock's 30pin connector to carry the video.

My friend who also has a classic 80gb is looking at getting the new dock that comes with a remote and I need to know, will the new dock (which only has a 30pin connector and a 3.5mm jack) output video with the older white iPod AV cable? Or will he have to purchase the new cable aswell.

Thanks for your help

No it does not work. I learnt the hard way.

I am just going to have to wait until someone figures out to make non Apple cables and put them on eBay for a 10th of the price.

I purchased the 160gb iPod Classic and the dock with the remote and the power adapter. The only way to buy the Apple cable is to buy it with another power adapter.

thanks buddy, i almost thought this thread was canned.
I don't understand, I give apple an extra 400 bucks (AU) for the ipod and they want more for a new cable.. here's to ebay!!
