iPod new ipod headphones with remote etc on old ipod classic?

hey i'm sure this question has been asked before but i couldnt find it in the search topics. does anyone know if you can get the play pause and volume control functions of the new ipod headphones to work with first version 6th generation ipod classics? or just not the most recent ipod classics?

No, you will only get sound from them but the remote functions won't work with your iPods. I have been using the in-ear with remote earphones for a year now and the remote doesn't work with the iPod Classic, only with my iPhone 3GS.
