NEW iPod--iPhone minus AT&T?

I think we need to see the new iPod emerge soon. I have read many forums where people are discussing their frustration with the AT&T part of the iPhone. Really, it is the only downside. I know that any wireless company that Apple chooses is going to have some downsides: Verizon cripples phones, T-Mobile you have no signal, etc. If you want a great device, let's see an iPhone minus the phone--a 6th Gen iPod. It would be a truly portable Mac. It would be a glorified PDA with Wi-Fi, touchscreen, more memory than 8G, better battery life and the best part: ONLY APPLE TO DO BUSINESS WITH! I hate all wireless providers (the one I use I just hate the least). I could use the new iPod without having the phone and just use my phone only for making calls. What do you think of this!!
