I saw a few people post that with the removal of the 30gig and reducing the regular iPod line to only 20gig and 60gig that a newer version of the ipod will be coming out soon with compleltly new capabilities unseen before (bluetooth, video, etc...) What do you guys think of this and if you do think it is true when will it hit the marketplace?

Well the iPod lineup has just had a refresh getting colour screens as standard, if you do that then your not going to then bring in something to replace that model suddenly (of course they could bring out a different model of iPod)

Also I would have thought that they would do this at that media event (announcing the updated lineup) rather then do it a week or so before, so I don't see anything coming around the corner just yet but thats just me ;)

bluetooth is too slow and video will be exciting for a few hours until everyone goes 'oh, its just moving pictures on a small screen'.

get an iPod now.

all about the iPod...

I think that it was just a "speed bump" and the new iPods (5th Gen) are still coming :)

i think this is the 5g. I ask does apple call them iPod 5g and 4g 3g 2g 1g, or did fans make that up, ( i thought we made it up).

i have a feeling that the 7th july media thing is this infamous and most un-apple like itunes phone. well, i will just have to wait and see.

grrrrr.

i bought a 30GB ipod last week, but i would rather have a thin ipod than a fat one and would never buy below 30GB these days for a mew 'pod, as opposed to 20, so i feel like i got a good end of the deal.

tastic.

I would wait until the 7th, just to see whats up.
I'm also mad that the lower model is 20 gigs. i would have liked to seen at least 30.

LOL, no new iPod is coming anytime soon. Apple just refreshed the line yesterday! If they were going to add another model or add new capabilities, they would have just done it yesterday.

I agree, it would be unprecedented for Apple to release new models (20gig in colour) and then release new wireless ones a week later.

I tend to agree with this... however, the prospect of this being an iPod line "refresh", though unheardof in the iPod line, may be very possible.

I warn you, however, the next iPods 5g or 6g (depending how you're counting) will not be a whole lot different than the current ones. Apple has got into a groove with the iPod, and not just monetarily. This "revision" makes the 3rd revision to include the same approx. thickness, a dock connector, and a 4-pin firewire port on the top. They're not likely to change that "so soon" because third-party developers count on those specs to make their new products. Expect to see a very similar form factor for another year or so. (at least)

Why does everyone think that? Doesn't anyone think it might be possible to have a video out adapter?

I still don't see how people are calling this a speed bump -- the line was simply reduced. We went from having a
20 b/w, 30 color, and 60 color TO
20 color and 60 color... Battery life was not improved not to mention no new features. What kind of update is that?
