I just got my girlfriend a 4gb ipod shuffle today as an xmas gift. My intention was for her to use it both at the gym with the headphones it comes with, but also with this snowboarding helmet:

The helmet has a mute button and a volume control button on the actual ear pieces. This works fantastically for my iPhone which allows you to hit play on the screen. But it just hit me that I don't know how the shuffle would work with this helmet as it has no "play" or "stop" button on the ipod itself.

Is there any way to play the shuffle without the headphones with the controls built in?

Could I plug the headphones into the shuffle, hit "play" on the control pad, then unplug the headphones and plug the cable from the helmet into the shuffle? Or will the shuffle stop playing when the cable is unplugged? Is there a way to turn that feature off?

Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure how the iPhone/shuffle plug into the helmet, but if it's a cable that feeds down to your jacket or something, you could add this in-line (for the shuffle).

Edit: although after reading some of the reviews about the durability, I don't know. Yipes!

The helmet plugs in through the standard headphone jack.

WOW - I'm amazed at all the terrible reviews of that adapter. Especially because Belkin usually has some quality stuff.
