iPod New iPod's included case?

Anybody got any good pictures/info on the case that comes with the new iPods? It looked like a joke when Jobs took it out at the unveiling of the iPods. Why gray? Apple is known for GOOD-LOOKING products... gray is the color of Windows machines!!! Arg!!!

I wish Apple made a case for the Video iPod that had some kind of clear plastic over the screen area so we wouldn't have to keep on taking it out of the case they are including. I know other companies make this, but I'd like Apple to come out w/ a See thru Case.

I couldn't agree with you more, why doesn't apple include a small no frills but functional case that provides minimal safety from scratches and that clips on your waist, but still allows you to control it from within the case. Two reasons I can come up with in order of increasing likelihood.

1. Apple wants there to be many 3rd party devices that satisfy this need so they can get kick backs from these smaller companies
2. So apple can still sell the iPod since having a case included is not a deal breaker for most if not all people

BTW the case they included with my 3rd Gen iPod was awesome i loved it, but this new case does not appear to have a clip or allow for button pressing. It's kinda of like a carrying case like if you just wanna throw it into a bag which i think is pretty cheesy and a large cop-out on Apple's part! But I'll take what i can get, shhhh don't tell apple i would have bought one anyone!!

I wouldn't be surprised if the case was an afterthought based on all the scratching feedback from the nano. If the new iPod is using the same materials as the nano then there will be a lot of unhappy punters with scratched screens. By throwing in the case Apple can absolve themselves from blame for this.

no not at all, its a quite a soft fabric. feels a bit like moleskin and is pretty strong as long as its not abused to much. the grey can dirty easily tho.

i agree, the 3G case was superb, i use it with my newer 4th gen ipod all the time.

AS for the 5th Gen case, i think that it was just something that apple threw in at the last moment to avoid any more complaints about the ease at which current ipods become scratched!

indeed, also, the conventional Windows colour wais beige not grey.
in the OP'sdefence though, i suppose that the powerbooks/mbp are technically metalic in colour other than 'grey'.

It's not grey, it's white neoprene, although I will concede it looks grey in many photographs. Some people have had black ones packed in, instead of white, btw. It's simple, but quite nice, and thin enough to be able to use the clickwheel through the fabric. I like it.

I agree bout the 3G ipod case. It was savage! It had a good heft to it and complimented the ipod very well. Oh i remember the day i got it. I felt like a spoiled kid with all the extras that came in the box, all the way down to the dock connector cover.

those were the days when apple really decked out the ipod... but
it did come at a 100$ higher price point on the better model...
