FAR smudgier. I was just grumbling about this last night after using a fine water mist and microfiber cloth to try and get rid of the smudging. All I did was streak the fingerprints around more and spent 5 minutes scrubbing at the screen (gently) trying to stop all the streaking.

This is the first iPad since iPad 2 that I've not used a screen protector on though -- I don't know if it's just because I'm used to the aftermarket tempered glass ones that seem to wipe easier or what. Still holding out for a screen protector that works :/

The first gen iPP was smudgy. My iPhone X is smudgy. Guys...it’s glass. Your hands contain oils. It’s not a mystery that needs solving.
It's not just that. The coating on the iPad Pro is designed to cut down on glare from direct light. The downside is fingerprint smudges are more noticeable.

It started with the iPad Air 2. It got worse on the 1st gen iPad Pros (which had an "improved" glare-resistant coating). These 3rd gen iPad Pros have perhaps the best, which means it will be the worst with regard to showing fingerprint smudges.

The solution, for me at least, has been to apply a matte screen protector. Not only does it cut down on the glare, but virtually eliminates all fingerprint smudges, and improves the feel when using the Apple Pencil.

Screen protectors help with this respect. Others report issues with them, however I've had no problems with my ESR protector.

Well, this thread happens every release. New iPad, new coating, clockwork.

Thanks. It’s not something I’ve heard about or paid attention to during previous releases. I feel better hearing I’m not alone in what I’m noticing though. If it’s the trade off for the better feel with the pencil I suppose I can live with it.

It’s definitely more smudgy and dusty than my Air 2 (which I’ve used without a screensaver since launch), and while I could run a microfiber cloth over the Air 2 and have a spotless screen, cleaning the new IPP takes moisture. I recently picked up electronics screen wipes for it.

For some reason, my experience so far has been just the opposite. My new IPP 11" is more resistant to smudges and fingerprints than any other iPad (Pro or not) before, and I've had just about everyone except the 12.9".
