Well, what do you think about Think Secret's new images of Jaguar at http://www.thinksecret.com/features/jaguarnewupdates/ ?

There seem to be some fairly large interface changes. "Crisper" is the word they keep using. I'm not sure I like what I see.

I love the "info under file names" feature, though. Classy.

Does it seem to anyone else that they're gearing up to have a new default desktop picture? There are a few clues to one in these pictures.... most notably on the design for the help screen and on the new "Computer" iMac icon in the Finder....

Thanks for the link mate, I'll have to check that out!
FYI...Page is still up as are the images, see them why you can before they get removed! ;)

i have the same release... they didnt really show off sherlock 3, but it seems considerably less buggy now...

i think whats interestin gabout this release and the last 2 (i think, if not last 1) releases have been this file in the utilities folder - "Bluetooth File Exchange"...

In addition to 2 other apps showed off at thinksecret.. there are now 3 bluetooth apps.. also, the icon of the program is an iMac.. therefore i think that apple is going to adopt bluetooth full steam ahead -- and i think they may show this support at MWNY by integrating bluetooth with at least their iMac. I think they may have stopped selling the adapter because they wanted to market/include it with their macs themselves...

sorry.. forgot to post picture..

That's something i've noticed this time that hasn't happened before - all the previous screenshots on ThinkSecret and the other sites that are carrying them haven't been removed and there's been no mention of cease & desist emails from Apple's lawyers. Either Apple isn't bothered about them this time (possibly because it's already shown a lot of the features itself) or the sites are ignoring any requests to remove them.

You'd have to be pretty ballsy to just ignore them.

My money's on the hype machine. I'm sure Apple LEgal is around the boards all the time, lookig to protect interests. MAybe this time, Apple PR cam along for a ride. We, the Mac faithfull, are going to have to pay for this upgrade, maybe letting some more info out is a way to amp us up, hhhmmm... seems to be working:D

Hold IT!!!

Did anyone notice the "audio MIDI setup" panel in system prefs pic. I wonder if this has anything to do with Emagic and Logic. Built in MIDI? A breakout MIDI Box with every system?

I'm really looking forward to Jaguar, and can't wait to install it (final version, I have already tried the first DP build). Long live OS X!

Take a look at this pic, comparing 10.1.5 to 10.2— definitely sharper. The did a revamp of the whole button interface.

No, they still have the same desktop, but you can now change the desktop randomly and at different time intervals (used to have to do this through shareware).

No. Apple did make one for Classic ever since the 7.5.x days, for PowerMacs, but they haven't ported one to X yet. At least they gave the current one some new extended functions.

Here's what the current calc looks like (they finally changed it!):

Sorry, can't get it to lunch for more than 4 sec w/o it crashing. The previous Sherlock was more stable, but this one seems newer still.

Hmm. Well, given the look of the Finder's new "Computer" iMac button, I still strongly suspect that a new desktop picture is on the way, even if it's not with the seed you have. Just a thought. I'd be glad to see the old one replaced, anyway.

I think we'll get a new desktop picture, I mean, we've been waiting on this update for awhile, and the who-haa around it is like a major move in system (which it might be):D

probably the feature im most happy about is that the DVD player can now take snapshots. seemingly just a minor enhancement but many people have a lot of use for things like this.

We're not supposed to do warez here, but I can tell you the networks— Carracho and KDX. HL is a bust for anything new, Limewire is for music.

close to final?

the "about this mac" no longer shows pre-release as the version number. It now says " Version 10.2"

It also has a "more info" button which launches Apple System Profiler.

other things I have noticed, the ink pref pane is missing.

sharing has internet sharing built in as well as windows file sharing (this may have been there before, but i never noticed it)

you can no longer drag documents out of the dock and have them float small on the screen (this was a really cool feature, i hope it makes it back) and the option to turn this on and off is missing from the dock pref pane.

new icons in the prefs:
keyboard and mouse now use the white versions instead of the black.

Don't count on it. These releases are full of bugs. And late summer means late Sept IMO.

what?? do you NOT think they wouldnt release Jaguar at MWNY?? seriously, do you think apple is stupid? Come on, Jaguar is the biggest thing for Macs every, and NY is the best environment for it.

Yes. The seed I got <1 week ago shows that Jag will not be ready for MWNY. Period.

It would be nice if 10.2 was ready, but MWNY is too close. They also said late summer, which it won't be in July. Apple has plenty of other things to fill up the show. They'll probably give it a passing reference/demo.

Apple can show their stupidity from time to time, even they are not immune. Like today for instance— give me a .dmg file to fix a disk copy that's not mounting images? And in Jan. let's not forget the iMac shortage. Apple's strengths overcome thier weaknesses though.

Choppa, OS 9 used to include a graphing calculator from Pacific Tech. I'm not sure if it's still going on now (I know not for OS X), but PT still has some dirt cheap graphing calculator programs ready for OS 9. They aren't great, though. I have version 2.2 and it's all right. But compare $40 to Mathematica's 4 digits it's a steal! :D

>Come on, Jaguar is the biggest thing for Macs every,...
Would you care to explain that statement all? That's your opinion, jadam, but I think there are some other things Apple needs to get out the door first. I agree with 68k on this one. And I think it would be better off during then, since Apple gets more time to work out the bugs, roaches, and termites in the beta of Jaguar to make a final version.
