i jailbroke my ipod touch earlier today, and i don't get the whole Cydia and Installer thing...the only thing that i was able to find that people said i should get was WinterBoard.

but, where can i get that SummerBoard app where i can customize my icons? someone explain what Cydia is for and what Installer is for.

Summerboard is pre 2.0 and not compatible with 2.xx firmware.

Winterboard is a replacement for summerboard. There are plenty of
winterboard themes available.
 
qik sucks because it takes forever to upload the pics on their server like an hour for the person to receive it and the person still has to open a link to see it
 
You can't just jailbreak and expect everything to be on cydia and installer ..

You have to Add sources to cydia.. I wouldnt even bother with Installer its too much of a hassle. When you add sources it adds packages and themes and everything you can think of.

there is a ton of customizable stuff you can do with cydia.

Here are some sources for cydia. to get them open cydia go to manage click sources. Then click Edit then add and type these in exactly as they are.. some dont work so i put WORKS or DOWN next to them.

alsooooo is there a screenshot app for 2.0+ software?
 
To take a screen shot, hold down on the power button for about two seconds, and click the home button.

It works the other way around too, but if you install Backgrounder, and try to take a screen shot with the home button pushed down, you will likely get a Backgrounder message in your pic!

For info on some cool themes, check out this thread. :)
 
Download all of the ones that work.. Theres no reason not to .. its not just one source that brings themes but alot of sources.. just go into all packages and look at themes or go to sections and click themes..
 
For a non technical type who is a tad scared of JBing, which is the best site to go to:
1. what to do?
2. How to do it?
3. What to do should I screw it up?:)

Check out the 4-page thread '[Windows Guide]...' half way down the first page. I followed it step by step and it worked perfectly. And I'm just a musician!
 
Ah my bad forgot to be specific. Wish I could link it but no copy/paste on these iPhones :). I just meant this forum section we're in, iPhone hacks. Just hit back on your browser and scroll down til you see a thread with a subject starting with [Windows Guide]...
 
Is there any way to tell which of your sources aren't working on the phone? Whenever I update my sources I get five "Source Error" popups. I'd like to just delete them and re-add them if they ever were to start working again.

that happened to me when i was adding sources, some would say they don't exist and wouldn't download at all, others would have an "error" midway through the download, but i think they still show up on my sources, but i don't know if there are any apps posted by them or not.
