New Laptop, MBP VS VAIO VS ...

I have an ASUS laptop that needs a new motherboard and i can't find one for less than 400$ and no one has been able to repair it. So i'm considering buying a new laptop. I'm an IT student and next year I graduate. I don't use to program in VB but i've seen that nowadays everyone should work with it. I need a new laptop but probably i will need windows also and if i buy a mac, should i buy a 15" or a 12" ? So my main questions are:

A) Mac or not Mac, do you really think MBP will run windows as dual boot?

B) 15" vs 12", i find the 12" too small, but i'm afraid the 15" are too big..

C) Should I buy a sony vaio or dell or asus ... ( to have VB and MTGo )

I'd appreciate some advice..

If vista becomes all it says it is going to be then you should be able to dual boot. If not a Mac I would go with Sony. Personally I find my 12" iBook too small to work on comfortably most of the time. For that reason I would get a 15", however windows doesn't have that problem like OS X. So a 12" windows laptop would suite you fine.

i forgot to say that i need a laptop in about a month, month and a half so i guess i wont be getting no dual core 12" and that makes me go to the 15"...

I doubt the MBP will be able to dual boot XP. It doesn't boot the vista beta, but might (as in more likely) dual boot production vista. If you need a windows laptop, get it. I need one and am seriously considering the Sony SZ. Nothing wrong with that.

Don't depend on dual booting. If your job or major requires it, just get it. Don't count on dual booting. Don't buy two computers (unless your like me and want to use macs as well because of iChat, iLife, etc.)

Good luck! Make the right desicion. And from a non-biased point of view, buy a high end windows laptop. you can get them for the same price as a MBP, and you don't need to buy two.

Finally, i think we are not far from having Mac be able to dual boot on windows. I'm hoping so. (as i said, i need a windows laptop, but can't always carry around two laptops, no matter how badly i want too. and Mac's are the supreme OS in my opinion.)

i bought the sony vaio FE series labtop. it has the core duo, 100 gb hard drive, 1gb of ram, media center xp and built in webcam. and the design is gorgeous.. very quite and light wait. its perfect. defintiely recommend it.

the 15" powerbooks dont feel too big to me, in fact they feel just right. you have quite a bit of screen real estate on a 15," it doesnt feel claustophobic.

Play around with one at an apple store if you can!

i dont know much... but I really cant imagine that there will be a reliable and safe way to boot Windows on the new Macs, especially considering your field.
