How does the current base model mac mini run 1 GB handle running lite applications simultaneously? (word, web, itunes, iphoto). I'd really like to avoid paying an additional $200 for an extra 1 GB if I don't really need it. (And no, I personally would never manually upgrade the RAM myself or ask someone to do so).

The most intensive thing I'd be doing all at once would be running 4 or 5 tabs in firefox, having iphoto open, itunes playing music, and a word document open). Am I looking at a future of many spinning beach balls or smooth sailing?

Buy it from Online Store and add 2 or 4GBs for the base model. it's extra 45€ (2GB) or 135€ (4GB). 1GB is quite small amount of RAM nowadays. If you want avoid spinning beach balls and want it to be future proving, add extra 1 or 3GB to it

I'm an idiot. I didn't realize I could just add the additional RAM via the online store for $50. Thanks so much. Problem solved.
