New mac mini 2009 from box problem (not working)

Hi, i am from Ukraine, my English is not good. It's bad. :(
But, i have problems whith my Mac Mini.
My friend bought me a mac in USA and post it to me. When i unpack it and try to connect to my monitor i had a problem.
Mini turn on and LED turn on and cooler turn on.:) But no power on USB (mouse and keyboard) and no video signal. When it's turn on LED is white in 5 sec., then it's turn off for a 1 sec. ant again turn on. Cooler work very silent. CD drive is not working. :confused:
I try to connect mini to my ASUS PW201 monitor and Samsung SM 932b via MINI DVI to DVI connector. Can i connect via miniDVD-DVI+DVI-VGA(no Apple) connector?
Reset the System Management Controlle, PMU, SMU, PRAM and NVRAM did't help me.

Get a skype account. Last I checked you can call 800 numbers in the US for free via that.

Call Apple Support, say you are traveling or something.
 
Problem in HDD. It's dead. Can i change hdd by myself? Old hdd is not working - system is not booting... No service centers in my country...

Call Apple they might be able to send you a new HD..
But yes you can replace it your self

Can you send it back to your friend and have him goto an Apple Store, they will fix it for you. Then he can send it back to you when its all fixed.

Is there any computer stores near you? Don't have to be Apple, but most of 'em are able to change HD for it.
 
What happens if you hold alt / option key when starting up? have you tried to boot from optical drive?

Probably more expensive and hassle then buy the HD and self-replace, if the HD is the only problem. however sounds like more serious problem.
 
Wait a minute. How can the hard drive be dead in a new 2009 Mac Mini right out of the box? Doesn't sound right. How do we know that's the problem?
 
If the HDD was really dead, you would still get a video signal with a screen showing a folder icon with a "?" - meaning that the Mac can't find a bootable drive. Sounds like you have another problem.

Sending it back to the us would be way too expensive.

Just google "mac min hard drive replacement". There are tutorials. It's not very hard.

I second that. I don't see how a bad HD would cause the computer to stop displaying video. Besides, the mini had to have been powered down during shipping, meaning the heads were parked (unless it was running and someone just yanked the power cord and packed it up) making chance of damage slim to none, especially if it was shipped in the original packaging. "Bad" or un-seated RAM is more likely in this scenario since the mini uses shared video memory.

I think this is the problem right here. Daisy-chaining a third-party adapter in that way won't work properly. I'd suggest getting the proper connector before grasping at all other kinds of straws in search of the problem.
 
Have you tried anything with JUST the DVI connector? As in, not using MiniDisplayPort and the problem persists?

Try DVI-out -> Monitor

If you have already, sorry. But MiniDisplayport-DVI -> DVI-VGA does NOT sound kosher to me.
 
Big thanks to all! I will try to replace hdd and make manipulation of memory. I will write about result. :) Yes, sending to US is expensive, more then buy a new hdd :):cool:

That's because it's either the RAM or the daisy-chaining of connectors! It seems like you only tried changing hard drives, which obviously isn't the problem as I can say with 110% certainty that the computer would still display video with a bad hard drive.

Try just using 1 adapter at a time as others have suggested. If that doesn't work, check or swap the memory (RAM).

Does the Mini "chime" when you turn it on?
 
It likely is the result of the adapters. The Mini DP to DVI only carries a digital signal, so trying to connect a DVI to VGA adapter won't work, because it needs an analog signal. All likely need to do is get a Mini DP to VGA adapter and it likely will work. I doubt there is a need to send it back.
 
I think problem in motherboard. All combinations of installing memory is not helped. Result is one in end - mini begun booting, after 5 sec it's rebooting and nothing is not happend. Problem is not in adaptor. I'll try to connect mini to my monitors using standart mini DVI to DVI adaptor (from box). - no signal. I send it back :-(
