Hi,

I've just been into the apple store and after been passed over to the 4th person (due to the other 3 not knowing the answer) I was told the answer to my question :mad::mad:, which I am unsure about.

My brother want's to connect his mac mini to his lcd tv. The only connection he has that can be used is HDMI. The mini comes with a Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter, so is it not just a case of buying a cable that has DVI - HDMI, pluging it in the the mini adapter via DVI and then plugging the HDMI in to the LCD TV? And running a separate cable for sound?

A guy in apple said I needed 2 adapters??? Costing double what my brother thought.

I presume this is the cable that comes with the new mini?

as this looks like I could buy one of these to plug into it:

Or am I totally wrong? :)

Yes you are right! I am using the same cable too. You only need an additional sound cable.

By the way does anyone know how to fit the screen into my 16:9 LCD TV? OSX display resolutions have choices only for 16:10 displays, so either I see the black horizontal bars, or i miss some part of the upper and lower part of the desktop (including the menu bar).

Thanks Peeps.

Apple noooooobs have cost me another journey into town then. I thought people in the stores were meant to be trained!??

I'm going to go to a cheaper electronics store and get a standard 1m dvi - hdmi lead then (like he link I posted for the one on ebay) and see how that goes. Should be fine hey? :D

Ah, I had the same quandry. And silly me, I answered my own question by looking through my electronics closet. I forgot that in a rash decision awhile ago I purchased a 30' DVI -> HDMI cable for playing Team Fortress 2 on my PC, but viewable through my television. Well my TV only outputs 720, so it didn't look quite as sweet as I thought it would, and also I only needed about 10' of cable after I moved my computer closer to the living room.

Months later, I was stuck with the same issue as you. Until I looked into that closet and said EUREEKA and connected the mini DVI -> DVI -> HDMI cable and bam. Great stuff. Oh yeah, and I also had stereo RCA cables -> 1/8" cable too, so I just hooked the whole thing up to the sound system. Good times, at no additional cost. But yeah, you should be able to pick up the cables DIRT cheap online on EBAY, like under $10 with free shipping as opposed to going to a big box store and paying 2 or 3x that.

As long as you can wait a few days :)

I got the cable from monoprice.com mini dvi to hdmi. I got it connected to my 72" tv.
