Hi everyone,

I'm looking at buying or building a desktop computer soon. Basically just looking for a decently powerful machine to run MacOS primarily, and potentially Linux or Windows through boot camp. Ableton Live 9 is the most intensive program I use. I was looking at the new Mac Mini, but it seems obvious that I might be able to build a more capable machine for less money. Any opinions or advice? I'd be interested to hear your recommended setups for this situation.

Kind regards,
G

Can Ableton (Mac version) utilize multiple CPU's?

If so, hunting down a late-2012 i7 2.3 or 2.6ghz might be an option...

If Ableton is like Logic and can take advantage of multiple cores then you need a quad i7. Look for a 2012 refurb.

Yes it does support multi-core processing. Might look into a refurbished 2012 model then. Much appreciated, thanks.
