New Mac Mini for Garageband/Logic Pro

Hello,

I am looking to get a Mac Mini, but the only ones available now are the 4/8GB versions of dual core i5's and i7's. I really only plan on getting a Mac Mini for messing around with Garageband and Logic Pro. They are not going to be massive projects or anything.

Will the new Mac Mini, let's just say the lowest i5 version, be able to handle Garageband and Logic Pro without giving me any problems, i.e. latency, lag or anything else?

Spend your money on RAM and storage for audio work. The processors in the Late 2014 are all dual-core anyhow. (Forget about the i7.)

I would go for a Mac mini with (minimum) 8GB RAM and at least a Fusion drive, or preferably a SSD.

Another option is to use fast external storage (via USB3 or TB) if you buy a Mac mini with a HD only.

I've been using logic since 99 (version 5), and back in the day you really needed a power house to get it going. But now computers have come a long way, just look at things like iPhones and iPads etc.

when you say messing around with Garageband and logic pro X. you will be more than ok for with i5 2.6 but please get a SSD.

but again its all based on what you can do with the tools, how far do you push logic? there are literally 100s of ways to do 1 thing.

PowerMac G4 2001 Dual 1 2gb ram - Logic Platinum 6 - 3k and logic was 1k+

PowerMac G5 2005 Quad 8gb ram - Logic Pro 7 - 2k and logic was 1k

Mac Pro 2008 Quad 2.8 12gb ram - Logic Pro 9 - 2k and logic was 300

Mac Pro 2010 Quad 2.8 12gb ram (apple replaced my 2008 here) Logic Pro 9 - free machine and didn't update logic

MacBook Pro 15" 2011 Quad 2.2 i7 8gb ram - Logic Pro 9 - 1k and didn't update logic

Mac Mini 2014 Dual i5 2.6 8gb ram - Logic pro 9 - 500 used still didn't update logic (no need to)
