My Mac mini had locked up with a kernal panic at least 4 times over the last few months....it's only 5 months old. I haven't been able to find any information specific to my panic report( mind you I was a whole hearted PC guy until recently), though I'm just not sure what exactly to look for in the report. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it might have something to do with my audio driver, maybe

Usually the following part of the panic report can give clues as to the cause

It looks like a lot of core Apple drivers were spotted during the time of the crash, which might suggest a hardware/logic board problem. However, you also have quite a few third-party kernel extensions active, which complicates efforts at troubleshooting. The best way to eliminate those as potential issues is to disable them or boot from a fresh install for a while and see if the system still acts up.

I'm also in the process of troubleshooting my Mini (lots of kernel panics as well). I noticed you have 8GB of RAM... is it third-party? I put my stock RAM back in and it hasn't crashed for 5 days (I've lasted as long as a week between panics using my 3rd party RAM, so I'm not out of the woods yet).

Finally, have you done the normal batch of preventative troubleshooting (Apple Hardware Test from system dvd, resetting NVRAM/SMC firmware, repairing permissions)?

Thanks, I'll disable as many processes as I can. I'll have to look up how to boot from a fresh install as I have not attempted that yet.

I have OWC ram which I was led to believe was on the compatibility list from Apple. (of coarse I traded in my old RAM probably not a good Idea)

I'll run the test from the DVD tommorow and post what I come up with, as well as the NVRAM and permmision repair

Thanks again:D

take the photosmart offline pull the usb on it. do nothing else run things all the same.
I have read that hp has caused panic kernals. some times a piece of gear you are hooked up to causes the problem.

it can be the hp and the mini would never make a p kernal except if you use 8gb owc ram.

it could be the mini and the 8gb ram would never make a p kernal except if you use the 3100 hp

google around a look for that model hp and panic kernals.

to further compound it all. it could be that everything would work except if you are running itunes

I kept having my machine Kernel Panic as well as I was only getting about an hour of battery life on my i5 MacBook Pro. It turns out, one of the HP processes was using all my CPU, and causing the KP's.
After reinstalling, I have not had an issue since. I highly recommend doing the same, or finding a different driver version.

For what it's worth, my RAM is from OWC as well (8GB kit). Any RAM has a chance of failing though so that's what the warranty is for (if you bought the OWC brand as opposed to their NuRAM, the warranty is advance replacement so you shouldn't have any downtime if the RAM ends up being the culprit).

As for a fresh install... that usually involves installing OS X on an external hard drive (or a separate partition on your internal).

This could be contributing to the problem as well. To see if something is hogging CPU resources, go to Applications-->Utilities-->Activity Monitor. Select "All Processes" from the drop-down menu in the toolbar and click on the "CPU %" to sort processes by CPU utilization.
