I'm looking to buy a new Mac Mini - anyone know whether the ones at the Apple Store will have Tiger installed, or Leopard?

In the US at least, they will have Leopard.. I assume the same holds true for the UK.

I'm not sure but if I had to guess, they probably have Tiger installed with the Leopard upgrade disc in the box.

Note: The upgrade disc only installs Leopard if Tiger is installed on your Hard Drive. So if for whatever horrible reason you'll need to reinstall Leopard:eek:, ya gotta install Tiger first.

Thx guys. I'm hoping it will be Tiger installed w/Leopard on disc.

So just to clarify - if it came with the Leopard drop-in disc, and if I chose to install that - but wasn't happy with it (say, for reasons of compatibility with my other hardware) - would I be able to downgrade to Tiger again assuming the Tiger disc was in the box?

I bought my mini on the day Leopard came out and it came with the drop in DVD.

It all depends on if they have had new stock arrive from China since Leopard was released. With mine I do have the option to go back to Tiger, it's just something I couldn't see myself doing as Leopard is so much better.

Yes

yes, you could just reinstall Tiger. If it comes with Tiger installed, then there will be a disc with Tiger in the box.

To help answer your question.. I purchased two Mac Mini's last night from Apple in Chicago. Both came with Tiger pre-installed and a Leopard Drop-In DVD. :)

I just bought two as well, and they came with Tiger installed, which I find pretty annoying, seeing as I waiting until a while after Leopard came out so that it would come pre-installed. I'm sitting here waiting for it to install... and you have to install it on top of Tiger, you can't format your drive. If I didn't know the "hold down C" trick, I would have had to go through the whole Tiger set-up (including watching the video) before I could even install Leopard.

It doesn't come with a Tiger install DVD, either... so basically you're not getting what you paid for. If you have to reinstall Leopard, you have to go buy Leopard separately.

Are you sure your computer doesn't come with the 2 restore discs? Restore disc 1 should probably have Mac OS X Tiger on it if you have it. I don't see why Apple wouldn't include the restore discs with your computer.
